Technology has transformed almost every single aspect of our lives. Yet in biopharma, it still takes 12 years to develop a drug. Even today, thousands of diseases affecting hundreds of millions of people have no effective treatment. Accelerating the pace of bringing effective, new medicines to patients is one of the greatest opportunities for humanity. Our mission is to develop better drugs, faster using technology. We have built an end-to-end technology-driven drug discovery platform centered around one of the field’s largest human genomics databases in neuroscience.
We use machine learning to map the complex causes of disease and turn those insights into promising drug candidates on our internal biology and chemistry platforms. We are developing drugs to treat some of the biggest medical challenges today: ALS, Parkinson’s disease, and dementia. Our first drug entered the clinic in 2022 as a new treatment for ALS and was discovered entirely from our platform. We have raised $175M from top tier investors (e.g. BlackRock, Eli Lilly, Merck, Section 32, Threshold Ventures, Y Combinator, etc.). As an Accountant at Verge, you will be responsible for developing, implementing and maintaining our accounting systems. You will play a crucial role in ensuring the accuracy and compliance of financial records, preparing essential financial statements, and supporting the overall financial health of the company.

- Develop, implement, and maintain one or more accounting systems.
- Prepare journal entries and maintain general ledger accounts.
- Reconcile general ledger accounts to ensure accuracy.
- Maintain subledgers and schedules such as accruals, fixed assets and prepaid expense schedules.
- Prepare financial reports and monthly reporting packages, including profit and loss, balance sheet and cash flow statement.
- Maintain receipts and disbursement reports.
- Interpret financial reports and records for managers, offering insights and recommendations.
- Ensure all accounting activities comply with regulatory requirements and internal policies.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support various accounting and financial initiatives.

You have...
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Professional accounting certification (e.g., CPA) is a plus.
- 2-5 years of experience in accounting, preferably within the life sciences or biotech industry.
- Strong understanding of GAAP and other relevant accounting principles.
- Proficiency in accounting software and Google Applications (Sheets, Docs, Slides).
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to interpret financial data and provide actionable insights.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience with cost accounting and tax preparation.
- Understanding of the biotech or life sciences industry and its unique financial requirements.
