Headquartered in Burlington, ON, and through its multiple subsidiaries across North America, Europe, Africa, and Asia, Anaergia is trusted at more than 1,600 installations globally.Job Overview:This is a mid-level position of moderate complexity and requires the ability to collaborate with Plant Management, Operations & Maintenance teams, work independently, and under the supervision of the RBS Plant Manager.

The EHS Specialist is responsible for local, state, and federal regulatory requirements related to the EPA, OSHA, and DOT for Anaergia facilities located in Southern California. The position is based out of the Rialto Bioenergy Solutions facility located at 503 E. Santa Ana Ave. Bloomington, CA 92316.Job Responsibilities:

  • Review daily environmental summary reports for air emissions and calibrations of Continuous Emissions Monitoring Systems (CEMS).
  • Analysis and, when necessary, editing of air emissions data for the facility’s 4 natural gas fired Reciprocating Internal Combustion Engines (RICE).
  • Support the facility with permit-required sampling events such as stormwater and quarterly waste characterization, among others.
  • Responsible for interpreting environmental permit conditions and monitoring air, water, and waste permit requirements.
  • Conduct documented monthly Spill Prevention, Control & Countermeasure (SPCC) inspections.
  • Order and maintain adequate supplies for spill kits.
  • Conduct documented weekly EHS inspections to identify workplace hazards, unsafe conditions, and upset conditions, and coordinate with plant management in assigning corrective actions.
  • Prepare monthly material flow reports for various local agencies with whom we have contracts to receive organic materials.
  • Conduct root cause investigations for environmental and safety-related incidents.
  • Manage Environmental, Health & Safety training, recordkeeping, and scheduling for operations staff at RBS.

  • Recognize requirements and ensure compliance with safety programs and standards, including hazard communication, slip/trip/falls, fall protection, confined space, hot work, respiratory protection, lockout/tag-out (LOTO), machine guarding, power and hand-held tools, powered industrial trucks, electrical, emergency shower and eyewash, and chemical management.
  • Assist in the development/preparation of Job Hazard Analysis (JHA).
  • Audit the Lock-out/Tag-out, Confined Space, and Hot Work facility permitting processes for continuous improvement.
  • Conduct onboarding and routine safety training.
  • Participate in monthly safety committee meetings.

Job Requirements:Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college in business or technical
  • A minimum of 2- 3 years of relevant experience may be accepted in lieu of a Experience working in an industrial environment.
  • Strong recordkeeping and organizational
  • Proficient in utilizing Microsoft Office Suite (e.g., Word, PowerPoint, and Excel) to write reports, draft procedures, prepare presentations, compile and analyze data, etc.
  • Comfortable with public speaking for training and presentation
  • Physical demands include walking, standing, sitting, climbing silos/tanks/anaerobic digesters, when necessary, occasionally lifting or moving items up to 50 lbs., entering Confined Spaces, exposure to high temperatures in the summer months and cold temperatures in the winter months.
  • Valid driver’s license

Preferred Qualifications

  • The preferred candidate will have 2+ years of EHS experience with a degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, or other related field. Professional experience and education will be considered in lieu of the preferred education and experience.
  • Experience conducting air emissions analysis using CEMS systems and the accompanying Data Acquisition & Handling System (DAHS).
  • Experience in emergency response to incidents involving hazardous and non-hazardous material releases to land, air, and water.

  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize multiple projects, and follow through on projects with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work overtime when necessary.
  • Obtain OSHA’s General Industry Train the Trainer certification (will provide).
  • Experience working in a Process Safety Management (PSM) facility.
