Description

We believe stories, creative, and digital experiences can move brands, people, and our planet forward. And we’re looking for an experienced digital content director with the drive and ambition to champion strategic creative thinking, inspire and lead a content team, and shape the practices and processes that grow our craft and increase our impact.

About Us:

Interactive Strategies is a people-first digital agency focused on creating best-in-class digital experiences for ambitious clients who make our world safer, healthier, and more sustainable.

About the Role:

We’re looking for a creative visionary and experienced leader to guide our small, mighty, and growing content team. You’ll play a pivotal role in shaping our agency’s creative practice. You'll establish a long-term vision, partner with executive leadership, and champion all things content. You'll manage and mentor our talented team of copywriters, content strategists, UX writers, fundraising strategists, and other creatives. They’ll turn to you for everything from supporting their long-term career goals to putting a final eye on copy and creative.  You'll also do the hands-on work of a seasoned content strategist.

At our agency, everyone works on projects — even our president. You’ll collaborate closely with strategists, designers, developers, marketers, and more to create industry-defining work. You’ll do everything from leading stakeholder conversations to defining key message to building pages in the CMS.

About You:

You think big. You live to inspire others. Creativity runs in your blood. You’re a born collaborator capable of jumping into any brainstorm session with a ton of ideas. You’re comfortable leading teams, and you have the chops to see creative inspiration realized. You're a gifted writer. You can craft compelling, story-driven narratives that articulate complex ideas, engage diverse audiences, and elevate our clients’ digital experiences. You’re able to juggle many projects at once, forge lasting relationships with colleagues and clients, and tackle any content challenge thrown your way.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide creative leadership for writers, creative teams, clients, and brands.
  • Understand our clients’ businesses and build strong, trusting relationships with senior client leaders.
  • Manage and grow our content team by performing all the important management tasks, such as resourcing projects to appropriate team members, recruiting new talent, overseeing professional development, and more.
  • Mentor writers and content strategists by sharing your in-depth knowledge, reviewing their work, offering strategic solutions to their challenges, and providing constructive support.
  • Champion content talent, services, and opportunities across the entire organization.
  • Develop and refine processes and best practices that increase the quality and creativity of the work we produce.
  • Lead end-to-end content strategies, from research and audits to content planning and creative development.
  • Draft and review copy for a wide range of projects, including internal marketing campaigns, complex association websites, fundraising campaigns, and inspiring nonprofit work.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams of strategists, designers, developers, and more to imagine creative ideas that exceed our clients' goals, inspire their users, and win industry awards.
  • Advocate for and incorporate SEO, accessibility, and web writing best practices.
  • Work in content management systems like Wordpress, Drupal, and Sitecore to create and manage online content.
  • Evaluate and participate in new business opportunities, recommend services and scope that meet the needs of unique client opportunities, and contribute creative concepts to our RFP responses.

Job Requirements:

  • You have at least 15 years' experience conducting content strategies for large, complex websites, preferably in a fast-paced agency setting.
  • You have at least 5 years' experience managing people.
  • You're an outstanding writer with a strong portfolio showcasing websites, campaigns and creative you've worked on and copy you've written. Please include samples with your application.

  • You're familiar with digital content tools of the trade, such as ScreamingFrog, Semrush, GatherContent, and others. You can work comfortably in content management systems like WordPress and Drupal.
  • You're proficient in web writing best practices, including SEO and accessibility.
  • You know AP Style. You have strong feelings about the Oxford comma.
  • You're interested in exploring and establishing policies for emerging technologies like AI.
  • You’re comfortable working at home and in the office. This position can be 100% remote. If you live in the DC metro area, you should plan to work in the office two days a week.
