Sol Systems is seeking an experienced, hands-on leader to oversee the company’s IT project and program management and business analysis practice. This role includes working closely with and supporting multiple business and software product development teams, including managing custom software development and 3
rd party software integration and customization initiatives. The ideal candidate has prior equivalent experience, exceptional written and verbal communication skills, and expertise in software product development methodologies. The candidate should also be comfortable interacting with technical and non-technical users to elicit and communicate requirements, be capable of effectively managing and prioritizing backlogs across multiple projects to help facilitate execution and be effective in communicating portfolio status to all members of the business and IT leadership.

This role will report to the Chief Technology Officer (CTO).Sol Systems is a leading solar energy firm based in Washington, DC, dedicated to building a more sustainable future. The Senior Director will be responsible for:


  • Build and lead the IT project and program management and business analysis team.
  • Maintain the IT project portfolio and roadmap and related backlogs for projects and workstreams including new software product delivery, enhancements and fixes to existing products and systems, and product and system support triage and resolution.
  • Monitor and communicate initiative status reports across our portfolio of products and projects, providing periodic updates to relevant business and IT stakeholders across all levels of the organization.
  • Lead business analysis efforts, working with business stakeholders and subject matter expert to identify needs, define scope, analyze and communicate requirements, and validate new capabilities and changes to products, systems, and processes.
  • Lead process improvement initiatives including identifying improvement opportunities, educating and building support for change, and maintaining awareness of industry best practices and new approaches and techniques.
  • Collaborate with implementation teams to guide and facilitate implementation, determine and communicate project requirements and success criteria, and ensure quality assurance with business stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with business and technical stakeholders and subject matter exports to build out and maintain business process, enterprise architecture, and project documentation.
  • Support and enable change management for IT-related initiatives including creation and dissemination of training materials.
  • Collaborate with IT leadership on process improvement and portfolio management and advancing IT’s role within the organization.
  • Other related project and process work as needed.

A successful candidate will possess the following skills and attributes:


  • 5+ years of experience in an IT leadership role and in project management and business analysis roles, supporting a wide variety of projects and products, including large custom software development and 3rd party software integration and customization initiatives.
  • Expertise in software project and product management methodologies including Scrum, Kanban, Plan-Build-Ship, and Waterfall.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent required.
  • Comfortable working in small teams in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Background in software development and solution architecture.
  • Experience with business process management (BPM) and BPM practices and tools.
  • Experience working in financial services and/or energy industry preferred.
  • Experience utilizing and administering project management tools, Jira and Confluence preferred.
  • Formal Agile, PMP, or business analysis certifications preferred.

This is a full-time role and will be based in our Washington, DC office. Sol Systems offers a hybrid work schedule with employees working from home and in the office.
