Manager of Fertigation and IPM

We are hiring for a Fertigation/IPM Manager position to oversee all irrigation and nutrient feeding for plants across our entire Delavan, IL Cultivation Plant. General duties include understanding and utilizing two different fertigation machines and be able to provide training to fertigation teams. In addition to this, they will be responsible for all pest and disease management, ensuring overall plant health for production. This includes scouting, prevention, treatment, planning, scheduling and leading a team in pest and disease management. The ideal candidate should have experience in plant health, pest management and the use of fertigation equipment. They should also possess or be willing to obtain IDOA pesticide licenses.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop nutrient feeding programs with the cultivation manager to meet the specific needs of various strains
- Develop and maintain irrigation strategies for both vegetative and flowering rooms
- Accurately identify plant health deficiencies
- Maintain inventory of all pesticides and nutrients on site
- Perform routine maintenance on all fertigation equipment and report any issues
- Troubleshoot and diagnose issues with fertigation equipment
- Accurately record data and observations using Biotrack and Cannabis365 operating systems
- Write and develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for fertigation and IPM, while scouting other potentially beneficial IPM tools
- Monitor soil moisture levels and take water samples for testing
- Calibrate all equipment to ensure accurate operation
- Ensure all nutrient tanks are properly filled for specified crops
- Obtain and maintain an IDOA pesticide applicator's license
- Oversee all cannabis pest and disease management
- Knowledge of pests and appropriate responses to manage them within cultivation and in accordance with IDOA and product standards
- Train staff on proper PPE usage and handling of all pesticides used within the facility
- Research new products and integrate them into current programs
- Analyze pest-related issues and respond appropriately and timely
Physical Job Responsibilities:
- Ability to work in varying environmental conditions, including high humidity, fluctuating temperatures, and exposure to chemicals and air contaminants
- Capability to perform physical tasks, including ability to lift up to 50lbs, standing for extended periods, and working within confined spaces
- Strong knowledge and adherence to biosecurity measures/regulations to keep facility, products, and personal safe
- Adherence to strict safety guidelines for facility and person; Proper PPE while handling nutrients and pesticides, Tyvek Suits, respirators
- Ability to work with pesticides in accordance with product specifications and IODA requirements
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Horticulture, Plant Science, Agronomy, or related field (or equivalent work experience)
- Minimum 2+ years’ experience in fertigation and/or IPM Production Environment, preferably in cannabis cultivation or similar agricultural setting
- Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor and develop a high-performing team of cultivation technicians in a dynamic environment
- Extensive knowledge of plant nutrition, soil science, irrigation and pest management
- Expertise in operating and troubleshooting Fertigation Equipment, and in fertigation techniques including mixing and applying fertilizers
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills, both verbal and written
- Ability to problem solve effectively and identify solutions quickly on your feet
- Development and oversight of adherence to Facility KPI’s and Performance metrics/Goals, utilizing cultivation data management tools for monitoring and optimization
Certifications/Legal Qualifications:
- Ownership/Ability to obtain IDOA pesticide license
- At least 21 years of age and authorized to work in the U.S.
- Certification in IPM/related disciplines preferred but not required
