Financial Planning & Data Analytics Services
Since introducing the concept of corporate finance-based planning to the healthcare field in 1983, Kaufman Hall has prepared hundreds of strategic financial and capital plans for hospitals and healthcare systems nationwide. Kaufman Hall’s breadth and depth of experience has enabled clients to manage their strategic financial and capital planning and decision–making processes efficiently and effectively. Our approach to Financial Planning & Data Analytics is grounded in a deep understanding of both the healthcare industry and the capital markets.
Kaufman Hall believes that Financial Planning & Data Analytics are not discreet activities to be completed through disconnected processes. They are highly interrelated and interdependent disciplines that are the cornerstones of effective organizational and financial management.
The Position
Kaufman Hall is seeking qualified financial planning professionals to join the team and will provide assistance and/or lead client engagements under the direction of senior leadership. The initial focus of effort will be preparing and implementing financial and capital plans. Consistent with the integrated, client-based nature of Kaufman Hall’s services, the employee will broaden to include designing comprehensive capital allocation processes and assisting with all aspects of merger, acquisition and divestiture transactions.
In short order, the successful candidate will be expected to manage client relationships along with the day-to-day build of financial models utilizing Hospital Advisor Enterprise, credit analysis and the initial preparation of client presentations. Our Level Construct:

Responsibilities
- Analyze and evaluate financial statements (including income statement, balance sheet and cash flow statement)
- Prepare credit and debt capacity analyses
- Maintain knowledge base related to contemporary healthcare industry issues, including but not limited to healthcare reform, government and commercial payor market dynamics, and the capital markets
- Establish structure, collect historic data and develop financial projections within the Software Suite and develop proficiency in our financial software products
- Translate complex corporate finance principles and analyses into concise observations and recommendations for a variety of client constituents including, finance professionals, senior management and boards of directors
- Link strategic plans to corporate finance principles by quantifying and prioritizing key strategic initiatives within a financial context
- Recognize and identify client needs that fall within Kaufman Hall’s range of service offerings, beyond the Financial Planning & Data Analytics practice
- Generate research in support of thought leadership development efforts of the firm
- Manage specific engagement tasks and deliverables, including service as primary day-to-day client contact
- Manage and develop junior staff
Qualifications
The ideal Senior Associate candidate will possess three to six years of experience and an Assistant Vice President candidate will have a minimum of seven years of progressive experience in one or more of the following areas: Consulting, Investment Banking or Private Equity, with significant healthcare financial/capital planning experience; or financial /capital planning experience with a large health care system
- Excellent technical skills in accounting and finance
- Excellent quantitative skills and strong financial modeling skills; experienced in thoughtful financial analysis capabilities, including valuation, pro-forma financial modeling and discounted cash flow methodologies
- A good understanding of net present value analysis; able to evaluate business and economic decisions
- Excellent analytical skills and the ability to develop business and financial projections
- Experience developing and writing financial and capital plans
- Demonstrated project management experience
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability to interpret data and provide relevant conclusions and recommendations
- Ability to learn in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple projects with competing priorities

Education
A bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance or a related field required. A CFA or master’s degree in business administration, hospital administration or another related field is preferred but not required.
Physical Requirements

Work Environment
- Travel Required: 10-15%
- The role is based in Chicago (preferred) or remote
- Work is regularly performed in a combination of in office, home office, and client settings and routinely uses standard office equipment
- It may require the maintenance of a home office and proximity to an airport for work related travel
