 Management Controls Inc. (MCi) is looking for an experienced Controller to join our growing Finance team.  This position reports to the VP of Finance.  You have proven experience with financial management, including managing accounts payable, accounts receivable, general accounting, monthly close and reporting and financial analysis.  The business is privately held, has been around for 28 years, services most of the Fortune 100, and is experiencing exponential growth, which will last into the next decade.

Management Controls is headquartered in Houston, TX. This position is a hybrid role working 3 days in the office and 2 remotely from home weekly.


Duties and responsibilities:


  • Own and lead the monthly close process utilizing NetSuite  
  • Manage Accounts Payable review process, ensuring expenses are reflected in proper periods and accrued timely. 
  • Manage Accounts Receivable review process, ensuring timely and accurate customer billing, collections and cash application 
  • Master Data Management 
  • Monitor payroll, revenue, expenses, balance sheet and cash flow activity 
  • Own and oversee the preparation of financial reporting, allocations 
  • Analyze and ensure intercompany transaction accuracy, timeliness and elimination 
  • Analyze sources of revenue data to ensure completeness and accuracy 
  • Prepare journal entries as needed ensuring proper segmentation of duties 
  • Prepare complete and accurate balance sheet account reconciliations and amortization schedules, researching and resolving variances on a timely manner 
  • Work closely with FP&A (Financial Planning and Analysis) and department leads to provide visibility to performance drivers 
  • Contributes to tracking and reporting dynamic dashboards to drive a deep understanding of financial and operational performance, using key performance indicators (KPIs) 
  • Manage annual financial audits conducted by external audit firm 
  • Maintain necessary information needed for tax reporting 
  • Participate in the planning and implementation of new systems 
  • Actively identifies ways to eliminate non-value work and leverages automation whenever possible 
  • Identifies opportunities to enhance operational finance reports, analytical tools, and self-service capabilities in collaboration with IT to drive efficiency for operational finance and support operational decision-making 
  • Other Finance and Accounting duties and projects, as assigned 

RequirementsQualifications include: 

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance 
  • Demonstrated understanding of US (United States) GAAP 
  • Active CPA license a plus 
  • 10+ years of progressively responsible experience in accounting with prior controllership experience 
  • Will consider candidates with 4+ years of relevant experience 
  • SaaS (Software as a Service) or other recurring revenue experience preferred 
  • NetSuite experience strongly preferred 
  • Concur experience preferred 
  • Paylocity familiarity a plus 
  • Highest standards of accuracy and precision; highly organized. 
  • Articulate with excellent verbal and written communication skills 
  • Ability to think creatively, highly driven and self-motivated 
  • Demonstrated ability to roll-up sleeves and work with team members in a hands-on management capacity 
  • Microsoft Excel proficiency (PIVOT TABLES, MACROS, INDEX, MATCH, VLOOKUP, HLOOKUP, SUMIFS, Power Query etc.) 
  • POWER BI (Business Intelligence) Proficiency preferred (ability to build central dashboard views from multiple sources) 
  • Must have strong initiative and the ability to multi-task and manage multiple projects 
  • Ability to work with large sets of data and heavy work volume 
  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines 
  • Ability to work in a team environment and maintain confidential data 
  • Flexibility to work extra hours when needed and work across time zones as needed for APAC accounting 
  • Self-starter, who has intellectual curiosity, shows initiative and can drive a project or process from start to finish
