a.i. solutions is seeking a motivated Flight Software Engineer to join the team supporting the NASA Launch Service Program (LSP) at Kennedy Space Center. The Flight Software Engineer will be assigned to support the Mission Analysis department providing insight/oversight of launch vehicle flight software processes and deliverables for our NASA customer. This position will work directly with the spacecraft and launch vehicle provider to ensure that all mission and vehicle requirements are implemented and tested within the flight software. This individual will also ensure that NASA maintains insight into the launch vehicle capabilities and exercises approval authority on all applicable deliverables/analyses. The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to embrace the a.i. solutions mission and work to continually exceed the expectations of our customers.
Essential Roles & Responsibilities:
- Support the Flight Dynamics Branch of the NASA Launch Services Program and serve as a technical expert for Flight Software issues on NASA LSP missions
- Participate in requirements development, review, and maintenance
- Review Interface Control Documents and other related mission documents
- Perform independent design reviews to ensure requirements are satisfied with no impacts to the system as a whole
- Ensure proper configuration management techniques are adhered to for documentation, software updates, software releases, and related reviews
- Perform rigorous verification and validation testing on the flight software
- Perform independent reviews of all flight software verification activities prior to launch
- Gain an understanding of the NASA contracted launch vehicles to serve as the technical expert for Flight Software issues
- Support the flight software elements of certification of new launch vehicle providers
- Develop analysis tools to facilitate the effective review of complex and extensive software test activities
- Provide flight software certification support for new launch service providers
- Act as primary liaison between the NASA customer and the launch vehicle provider
- Support ELV LSP and mission engineering review boards as required
- Perform post-flight data reviews and support issue disposition
- Support process improvement activities to advance the group
- Support the independent verification and validation of special projects within the scope of launch vehicle flight software
- Travel occasionally as required <10%
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related technical discipline
- 5+ years of experience with launch vehicles or relevant support
- Experience with MATLAB modeling, scripting, and analysis
- Experience developing and testing software in a variety of languages including ADA, C/C++, and Python, as well as knowledge of the Linux/UNIX OS
- Obtain successful completion of a government background check
- U.S. Citizenship
Desired Background:
- Knowledge of software coding practices for commercial launch vehicle providers (including but not limited to powered flight guidance, navigation, and control algorithms), as well as familiarity with applicable industry and government software standards, as well as Agile software development
- Experience with hardware and/or software in the loop testing for launch vehicle applications
- Knowledge of launch vehicle flight design, trajectory analysis, guidance, navigation, and control, and orbital mechanics
- Familiarity with JIRA/Confluence
- Ability to quickly connect in-person and in writing, and to actively listen and perceive the needs, values or opinions of others
