The State Teachers Retirement System of Ohio (STRS Ohio) is seeking a Senior Analyst, Alternative Investments (Focus: Opportunistic/Diversified) or Assistant Portfolio Manager, Alternative Investments (Focus: Opportunistic/Diversified) to join its Columbus, Ohio Investment team.Nearly two-thirds of STRS Ohio’s investment assets are managed internally by more than 100 Investment Department professionals. STRS Ohio’s investment returns for the three-, five- and 10-year time periods ending June 30, 2023, ranked in the top 10% of Callan’s public fund sponsor database.

8:00am - 5:00pm Monday through Friday, with up to two days per week remote work opportunities. Occasional travel may be required.

General Summary (Grades 312 & 314):


Under the direction of the director, Alternative Investments, assist in the investment decision-making process, ongoing management, monitoring and evaluation of the alternative investments portfolio.

Summary of Responsibilities (Grades 312 & 314:



  • Develop portfolio strategies based upon internally or externally implemented investment strategies, with a goal of meeting the long-term performance objectives of the total fund.

  • Generate and/or evaluate prospective investment opportunities, including meeting with principals, conducting due diligence, conferring with outside parties and preparing investment recommendations.

  • Lead or support internal deal team efforts to source, analyze, recommend, structure, negotiate and execute alternative investment strategies including direct and co-investments.

  • Develop and maintain strategic partner relationships which generate high-quality deal flow and due diligence supporting investment activities.

  • Provide training, education, and guidance of less senior alternative investments staff.

Summary of Qualifications


(Grades 312 & 314:



  • Bachelor's degree in related field required.

  • Master's degree in business administration, economics, statistics or finance is strongly preferred.

  • Six to ten years (Grade 312) or ten or more years (Grade 314) experience in alternative investment asset management, private equity, private credit, co-investments, secondary funds, investment banking, investment research or investment consulting is required.

  • Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) holder preferred.

  • Ability to conduct research, model proforma financials, analyze data, value financial assets and make recommendations to other members of the alternative investments team required.

  • Superior organizational skills and a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail required.
