Reporting to the Director of Human Resources, primarily responsible for assigned businesses.  This position leads all human resource initiatives including planning, implementing and administering human resource programs and policies related to the business.  Policies and program responsibilities include: recruitment, employee development, employee relations, compensation, performance management, disability leaves, training and succession planning.  In addition, this position helps to develop companywide communication strategies and compensation programs designed to attract, reward and retain people.

Minimum Qualifications:


  • BA/BS in HR or related field required.
  • 3-5 years experience with proven track record of success in a generalist function.
  • Ability to think creatively, highly-driven and self-motivated.
  • Strong organizational & project planning skills with ability to meet deadlines & manage multiple priorities in a fast paced environment.
  • Knowledge of hiring practices, employment regulations, compensation design & related laws.
  • Sound business judgment, analytical skills, & decision making abilities
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with customer & quality focus.
  • Ability to think strategically & champion change as a business partner
  • High level of integrity & discretion with confidential information
  • Demonstrated proficiency in all MS Office Suite products; expertise in HR database tools desired.

Primary Job Functions


  • Acts as a business partner, providing general Human Resources support to assigned business units by leading in the organizational design, assessment and selection of candidates and the development of performance improvement measures.
  • Partners with management and recruiting to develop and execute strategic recruitment procedures. Partners with recruiter to identify and manage external recruiting sources within budgetary guidelines, interviews and recommends candidates, and negotiates terms of employment.
  • Conducts job evaluations, needs assessments, and participates in strategic planning to develop competency models that serve as a framework for identifying, hiring and developing talented personnel to excel in a high performance environment.
  • Partners in the development and delivery of training in leadership development, process improvement, and industry specific skills identified through needs assessment.
  • Partners in the development of incentive compensation & reward programs that reinforce Fortegra’s corporate culture and business initiatives through both individual and team awards.
  • Consults with business units to ensure compensation programs best suit their competitive environment.
  • Supports new employee orientation training, as well as Intranet & Web-site communication initiatives to foster positive attitude toward company goals.
  • Conducts exit interviews.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
  • Assists in maintaining and developing HR policies, to ensure compliance with corporate culture and applicable laws.
  • Prepares recommendations, information and input for salary considerations including: merit, bonus, adjustments and promotions, giving focus on pay for performance and salary benchmarks for assigned business.
  • Knowledgeable of HR policies and provide HR guidance
  • Employee relations intake
  • Analyzes trends and metrics in partnership with the HR group to develop solutions, programs and policies.
  • Works closely with management and employees to improve work relationships, build morale, and increase productivity and retention.
