As we enter the next phase of our growth strategy and begin to scale the business, we are looking for an Assistant Controller to come lead the Accounting function. This position will report directly into our VP of Finance, and will be responsible for enhancing the internal control framework and leading all accounting processes including month-end close activities, external audits, financial reporting, etc. This is a highly visible position in the organization that will play an active leadership role on the Finance & Accounting team and requires the successful candidate to utilize a broad range of accounting, financial, and operational skills, to lead and provide the appropriate accounting guidance and support to the business.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Lead all accounting processes including month-end close activities, internal and external audit requirements, financial reporting, account reconciliations, internal controls, etc.
- Oversee the A/R, A/P, payroll, inventory and general accounting functions including billing, credit and collections, vendor payables, and cost accounting activities
- Coach and develop accounting team members to support goals of the Company and the team
- Enhance the company’s accounting policies and procedures relative to closing processes, account analysis and reconciliation, transaction-based accounting and write technical memos. Ensure accounting policies and procedures conform to US GAAP accounting standards. Draft and implement policies and procedures as necessary
- Continue to develop and improve internal controls, policies and infrastructure to support business growth and partner effectively with other finance team members and non-accounting functions to drive improved controls and process enhancements
- Optimize and automate accounting processes to drive a faster monthly/quarterly close period and accelerate preparation of financial statements, internal reporting, and metrics
- Proactively lead day to day relationships with independent auditors for the planning, coordination and conduct of their annual audit and other services. Oversee external audit process to facilitate completion of audit procedures in a timely and efficient manner. Lead the resolution of any audit findings or observations.

Expected Areas of Competence:
- Self-motivated, team player who can credibly communicate with and relate to people at all levels in the finance and accounting organization, with the experience and ability to motivate, manage, rally and mentor the team, while understanding that he/she will need to roll up their sleeves to ensure successful completion of organizational priorities
- Significant technical accounting expertise (experience working for a Big 4 or major regional accounting firm); must possess strong knowledge of US GAAP
- Strong experience in internal control design and implementation
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to interact professionally with all levels of the organization. Demonstrated ability to simply communicate complex financial concepts and technical accounting implications to stakeholders across the business
- Experience working in a fast-growing environment and with scaling processes to support growing organizations
Education/Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting/Finance. MBA and/or Master’s Degree in Accounting preferred
- Must have at least 10 years of accounting/finance experience with at least 4 years of experience managing an accounting function
- Must hold an active CPA license
- At least 4 years in a role with a Big 4 or major regional accounting firm
- Experience in life sciences, biotechnology or medical device industry preferred
- Experience in Infor Syteline is a plus
