What is the role?
dotCMS is a cloud-based Digital Experience platform that is changing how enterprises do digital. We seek an individual who understands content management in the digital business space, with exceptional communication skills, accountability, and a collaborative spirit. As a Director of Outbound Product Management, you'll lead all of our outbound product management efforts, working cross-functionally with our Customer Experience and Revenue organizations on enablement, go-to-market motions, and both technical and non-technical product marketing and with our Design and Engineering organizations on product strategy, developer relations, and external stakeholder representation.
This role offers the opportunity to serve as the primary Product leader and voice at dotCMS, informing our product roadmap and strategy based on customer needs and empowering our external-facing teams.We're proud to be 100% remote! dotCMS has been fully remote for over a decade, and as an employee, you may work remotely from any location compatible with standard U.S. business hours. What you’ll bring to the team:
- Oversee and direct all outbound product management activities, including but not limited to competitive analysis and intelligence, comparative product research, go-to-market and field enablement motions, voice of the customer (VoC), product positioning and messaging, and developer advocacy and relations.
- Partner closely with other product managers engaged in inbound product management to establish and maintain a value-focused, forward-looking product vision, strategy, and roadmap to build trailblazing and industry-leading features and products for dotCMS.
- Contribute deeply to the definition and delivery of specifications for product features based on the external stakeholder’s voice, gathered feedback, product metrics, quantifiable data, and product instinct connected to company objectives and data-driven decision-making.
- Act as a visible internal and external thought leader and spokesperson for dotCMS and dotCMS vision (e.g., co-creating and co-leading Universal CMS definition and vision), authoring product content (e.g., articles, webinars, whitepapers, e-books), and working with Product and Marketing on how to best represent the company at industry and field events, conferences, and other speaking engagements.
- Lead and direct field enablement activities from Product, including all Sales and Channels enablement processes across the funnel, including product training, sales demos, and prospect/customer evaluations in collaboration with Sales, Channels, and Customer Experience.
- Lead cross-functional initiatives jointly with the VP of Product, such as analyst relations and briefings, customer and partner advisory boards, thought leadership motions, and key events.
- Keep apprised of emerging approaches and technologies, industry trends and channels, and field and market expectations to maintain a high bar for product quality, product strategy, and product instinct.
- Build close customer, partner, and developer community relationships in conjunction with Sales, Channels, and Customer Experience to act as their core external stakeholder representative in Product.
- Collaborate closely with Sales Engineering to ensure demo quality from the start to the end of deal conversations.
- Work closely with Marketing on key content initiatives, tentpole event marketing, thought leadership, product positioning and messaging, and marketing launches.
- Develop meaningful relationships with key individuals internally and externally to assist and support the customer experience and to foster product iteration and continuous improvement.
- Share the team's industry knowledge and outbound product management best practices (e.g., go-to-market, enablement, discovery, research, competitive intelligence).
Requirements:
- 5+ years of experience in Product Management and/or related roles within the Content Management System industry (e.g., Go-to-Market, Product Marketing, Developer Relations).
- At least 3 years of experience in a management position.
- Proven track record of:
- Executing technical, product, services, or developer relations roadmaps within the CMS industry.
- Conducting cross-functional product enablement for successful go-to-market operations.
- Maximizing product feature adoption by staying attuned to product metrics, telemetry, and feedback.
- Working with multicultural and 100% remote teams.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with other teams.
- Bachelor's degree in design, Computer Science, or a related field.
Additional desirable characteristics:
- Writing experience or having a personal blog.
- A design background.
