Network/Systems Field Engineer – Remote Hybrid
**All Candidates Must be Located within 45 miles of Bluefield, VA. Onsite client visits are required throughout the week in the Southwest VA and Southern WV area. When not working at a client's location, engineer will be working from home or from our Bluefield, VA office location.
Network/Systems Engineers are the backbone of our service delivery organization. They are required to be skilled in networking, client/servers, and security. This diverse expertise is crucial for managing and resolving issues for our managed services clients and contributing to larger projects and initiatives. They are expected to maintain high standards of work ethic, client communication, and technical knowledge. Reporting to the Senior Team Manager, the Network/Systems Engineer is accountable for handling a wide variety of issues and implementation projects. Network/Systems Engineers are expected to show initiative and be proactive towards problems and solutions.
They will work closely with other staff members under the Senior Team Manager’s guidance and direction. Magna5 has a dedicated 24/7 Network Operations Center where tickets will be received, prioritized, and escalated to higher tiers of support if necessary.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Project management and implementation/configuration of networking, server, cloud, security, endpoint and wifi products
- Troubleshoot problems with a high-level overview of client environments
- Respond to alerts and escalated tickets from various monitoring systems
- Document procedures and resolutions
- Own tickets and issues, from resolution to proactive measures
- Provide quality customer service; client problems are our problems
- Report critical incidents or problems that become too complex for self-resolution
- Assist the Operations Center staff with special projects and other duties as needed
Requirements
What You Bring to the Team
Education:
Formal education preferred Associates/Bachelor’s degree or technical equivalent. Relevant and significant industry experience may substitute for the education requirement. Industry certifications including Microsoft, Cisco, VMware, Fortinet, Watchguard, and Extreme Networks certifications recommended.
Experience:
Minimum of 2 years experience administering/supporting the following technologies relevant to both networking and systems engineering:
Networking:
- Enterprise Network Environments including design and implementation
- Strong fundamental knowledge and experience with switches, routers, firewalls
- Layer 2: VLANS, Broadcast storm and loop prevention
- Layer 3: Static and dynamic routing protocols
- ACL’s, Policy-Based Routing, Route-Maps, Prefix-lists
- Radius/LDAP/802.1x
- High Availability Concepts
- SD-WAN, QoS, Traffic Shaping
- Firewalls and security appliances
- Network drawings
Systems:
- Virtualization including VMware and Hyper-V
- Storage and RAID concepts including SAN and NAS
- Active Directory: Group Policy, Sites & Services, DNS, DFS, Certificate Chains
- Windows Server and Linux (Ubuntu, CentOS, Red Hat)
- Exchange, Office 365, Hybrid Solutions and Migration, SPAM Filters
- Hosted and Cloud Solutions including Azure
- Backup Solutions & Disaster Recovery
Certification Expectation:
- Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA)
- Fortinet Network Security
- Watchguard Network Security Essentials/Secure Wi-Fi/Endpoint Security
- Extreme Networks ECP
- Microsoft
- VMware
- AWS
- Microsoft 365 Certified Enterprise Administrator or Equivalent
Skills:
- Microsoft Windows Server 2016/2019/2022 and Active Directory
- Microsoft Office Suite and Microsoft365 experience
- Microsoft Exchange and SQL Server
- VMware VSphere 6.5 and above
- Knowledge of backup and storage technologies
- Knowledge of security appliances, practices and policies
- General networking expertise
