ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY: 


As the largest owner and operator of businesses built on Shopify, engineering is at the heart of our success.Join OpenStore as an Engineering Lead and play a pivotal role in shaping and building our cutting-edge e-commerce platform. Our engineering team is crucial in developing the operational and growth infrastructure that powers our expansive portfolio of brands.In this role, you will lead and inspire a high-performing engineering organization, driving the creation of multiple innovative products that support the rapid scaling of our owned brands.

Your work will not only enhance our operations but also serve the broader Shopify ecosystem, which includes over 4 million businesses.This is a unique opportunity to collaborate with top-tier talent and influence the trajectory of a dynamic, Series B startup. You will be instrumental in bringing our mission to life—empowering entrepreneurs and shoppers to find something new. We are seeking a candidate with a proven track record in fast-paced, evolving startup environments.

WHAT YOU’LL DO:



  • You will act as an owner and responsible for designing, implementing, and monitoring all operations and critical performance metrics, and operational efficiency within the engineering organization.

  • You will be an inspirational leader, building, developing, and leading multiple high performing engineering teams. 

  • You will establish a vision and roadmap that defines our technology strategy to build both our product surface areas and the underlying infrastructure that will enable the business to grow sustainably. 

  • You will establish best practices and procedures to ensure consistent adherence to a standard of excellence.

  • You will create an environment focused on impact, fostering a culture of collaboration, trust, ownership, and open communication.

  • You will seek truth and propose innovative ways to create a lasting impact.

  • You will create a high-performance team through delivery of clear performance expectations and continuous feedback, while setting a strong bar for engineering standards, and high quality decision making.

WHAT YOU HAVE: 



  • You have at least 12+ years experience operating in modern engineering practices, with a track record of leading, coaching, and mentoring high performing engineering organizations.

  • You have at least 5+ years operating as an team leader.

  • You have extensive knowledge of building and designing scalable and resilient systems. 

  • You have deep technical expertise in both product and infrastructure engineering, as well as a willingness to work at the lowest level of details. 

  • You have a business orientation and can make the connection of ongoing organizational initiatives to broader company goals. 

  • You have good product sense and an ability to bring a vision to life. 

  • You have a successful track record of partnering effectively with stakeholders to integrate an engineering roadmap with other product development functions including but not limited to Product, Design, Data Science, and Operations.

  • You are an excellent communicator when working with both technical and non technical stakeholders. 

  • You foster an environment that is inclusive and values experimentation and risk taking.
