Summary:
The buyer is responsible for developing relationships with suppliers, negotiating prices, understanding industry trends and risks, building relationships with internal and external stakeholders, choosing the best suppliers, and working with them to improve lead times where necessary.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Responsible for purchasing materials, efficiently and effectively, following the company guidelines and customer contracts, in terms of AVL adherence, unit price, quality, and delivery.
- Make tactical decisions concerning the placement and management of all purchase orders. This includes order placement, expediting, rescheduling, and cancellations, as well as timely resolution of non-conforming material, goods in discrepancies, and invoice queries.
- Confer with vendor partners to obtain product information, quotes, availability, delivery lead times, shipping compliances, product quality, and other key initiatives/requests
- Minimize inventory by ensuring that material is aligned with Production work orders and realigned as production work orders change.
- Initiate corrective actions and escalations to avoid delinquent orders impacting the production schedule.
- Collaboratively manage established procurement automation processes which includes optimizing, troubleshooting and ensuring data integrity within our MRP system.
- Manage material cost variances. Identify cost-saving opportunities and implement cost-reduction initiatives.
- Work closely with the quality control team to address any quality issues.
- Build and maintain strategic relationships with our key suppliers
- Understand internal processes and how the buyer role affects upstream and downstream tasks and proactively mitigate possible issues.
- Communicate and collaborate with multiple departments to make purchasing decisions and find solutions to product issues.
- Run reports and extrapolate data to assist in job functions
- Assist with special projects, like continuous improvement, special reporting or other duties as assigned.
