Description:
The Environmental Engineer position is critical to the success of the business. This position is responsible for ensuring compliance with environmental regulations, identifying environmental improvements that reduce costs as well as reduce the environmental footprint, and providing environmental support to plant operations.
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Develop and plan policies/procedures related to air, water, and waste systems in accordance with organization and government rules/regulations.
- Participate in permitting efforts for all media, which include outlining permitting strategies, completing calculations, corresponding with agencies and generating the require data. Ensure permit conditions are met by plant operations.
- Audit air, water, waste and land systems for environmental applicability and compliance with federal and state regulations.
- Complete, document (for recordkeeping purposes) and submit to the required annual, semi-annual, monthly, weekly, and/or daily environmental reports for the plant-wide operations. These reports include, but are not limited, Emissions Inventory, Toxic Release Inventory, Tier II, Water Development Board Reports, Annual Waste Summary, NSPS reports, and TPDES wastewater reports.
- Create/revise required management plans such as SPCC, pollution prevention, and potable water.
- Interface with regulatory agencies for audits, schedule any required testing, and provide additional follow-up documentation as required.
- Support operations on issues related to flares and stacks, wastewater treatment, and hazardous waste disposal and maintenance activities.
- Provide incident support for continuous operation, which include on-call duties, incident reporting, fielding agency questions, and deviation reporting.
- Lead and/or participate in investigation of environmental incidents and implement system improvements to reduce potential for future events.
- Coordinate potable water, wastewater, and storm water sampling, discharge monitoring, HRVOC emission monitoring, and waste shipment tracking.
- Lead environmental improvement and waste reduction projects to help meet company sustainability goals.
- Participate in communication effort with local Citizen's Advisory Council by providing periodic report, attending meeting, and other written communication.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Environmental Science, or related field.
- 5 – 10 years of experience in the environmental field, preferably at chemical manufacturing facility.
- Demonstrated experience applying environmental regulations (ex. RCRA, Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act) and working with environmental regulatory agencies (ex. EPA, TCEQ). A plus to have experience in non-attainment area.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work well in a collaborative environment.
- Strong initiative and drive to succeed.
