About the Position


As a Developer Experience (DevEx) Engineer you will play an important role in shaping the future of drug development at Formation Bio. This position involves enabling our engineers to work at peak efficiency so that we can ship value-adding product features faster, without toil or roadblocks.In this role, you  will collaborate closely with engineers, analysts, data scientists, and domain experts in the drug development field to design, build, and implement workflow-optimizations. You will develop high-quality, user-friendly software tools and design and implement productivity patterns that enable our engineers to work efficiently.This position is ideal for an engineer who is passionate about continuous improvement, highly productive and efficient software development, and finding the optimal developer experience.

Your expertise in software development, automation, user experience, and process improvement will be instrumental in driving Formation Bio’s mission to bring new treatments to patients faster and more efficiently. 

Responsibilities


  • Consult with engineers on the processes for developing and deploying mission-critical software services.
  • Develop and maintain developer workstation tools that automate repetitive or burdensome administrative tasks to reduce the level of effort and cognitive load associated with infrastructure, deployments, CI/CD systems, updates, supply chain management, etc.
  • Develop and maintain application templates used by engineers as a “starting point” for new services.
  • Develop and maintain CI/CD workflow templates and implementations for products.
  • Maintain an up-to-date awareness of industry best practices and help incorporate relevant and useful changes into our workflows to improve our state-of-the-art.
  • Write, review, and provide feedback on requirements and design documents as well as operating and maintenance procedures. 

About You


  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 3-5 years experience as a software or infrastructure engineer focusing on tooling and automation.
  • Exceptional collaboration and communication skills to effectively engage and work along stakeholders from diverse disciplines and varying levels of technical expertise.
  • Experience using Docker, Python, Django, Flask, SQLAlchemy, Node, NestJS, MikroORM (as many as possible).
  • Experience with CLI tool development for Linux and MacOS using Bash and/or ZSH. 
  • Experience with CLI tool development on Windows/WSL is a plus, but not required.
  • Familiarity with cloud infrastructure (AWS preferred) and the full end-to-end process of modern software development in a containerized environment.
  • Familiarity with CircleCI, HashiCorp Vault, Postgres preferred.
  • Experience in a regulated industry (especially pharmaceuticals or biotech) is a plus, but not required.

We offer competitive compensation because we want to hire the best people and reward them for their contributions to our mission. We pay all employees competitively relative to the New York City market, regardless of their location. In compliance with NYC’s pay transparency law and in pursuit of pay equity and fairness, we publish salary ranges for all open roles at Formation Bio. The target salary range for this role is $153,000 - $200,000.
