Job Summary
Aetos is seeking a focused individual who will work as a team member providing mission support to the Expendable Launch Vehicle Integrated Support 3 (ELVIS 3) IT Department at Kennedy Space Center, Florida. This person must have a self-starter attitude in performing database administration for NASA’s Launch Services Program. The candidate must lead the design, installation, configuration and maintenance of SQL databases in an administrative systems environment as well as launch support systems environment. Ultimately, Aetos is seeking a person with a passion for space and an enthusiasm for working both independently and within a team-based environment.
General Summary:
- Design, install, configure, and maintain database systems, including monitoring, tuning and troubleshooting issues at both Kennedy Space Center (KSC) and Vandenberg Space Force Base (VSFB).
- Establish and maintain standards and best practices to ensure consistency and reliability across all database environments.
- Develop guidelines for database design, development, and maintenance.
- Design and structure databases to efficiently store, retrieve, and manage data.
- This involves creating schemas, tables, indexes, and other database objects that meet the organization’s needs.
- Collaborate with developers to design databases that support the organization's applications and reporting requirements.
- Support users and developers by resolving data-related technical issues and troubleshooting queries.
- Continuously monitor database performance to identify and resolve issues proactively.
- Execute regular database maintenance tasks, including database defragmentation, backups, and database replication.
- Implement robust security measures to protect databases from unauthorized access, breaches, and other threats.
- Continuously monitor for security vulnerabilities and apply necessary patches and updates to maintain a secure environment.
- Implement and manage comprehensive backup procedures to safeguard against data loss.
- Verify the integrity of backups and periodically test restore processes to ensure they can be executed smoothly when needed.
- Execute disaster recovery plans and procedures to ensure database availability during system outages or dysfunction.
- Support Launch Operations as requested by NASA.
- Travel to VSFB as requested by NASA.
Leadership
- Communicate ideas and solutions effectively to management, team members and customers both orally and in writing.
- Work effectively with other ELVIS 3 team to ascertain needs, resolve differences, and ensure timely completion of tasks.
- Provide timely project status report to Business Area Manager and team members. Actively participate in staff meetings. Present new ideas, offer solutions, raise issues, and determine ways to assist team members.
- Inform management of project issues immediately and present plausible solutions.
- Meet project schedules and organize own time effectively. Notify management immediately when schedule conflict arises.
- Demonstrate enthusiasm for the job, pride in the organization and a willingness to perform tasks as assigned.
Requirements
- US Citizenship
- Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Engineering, Computer Science or 10 years related technical field experience
- Minimum 5 years of technical experience; or an equivalent combination of experience and education from which comparable knowledge and skills may be acquired.
