OVERVIEW:


The Medical Assistant provides support services under direction of Case Managers in processing Workers’ Compensation claims.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Handles incoming calls from claimants, providers, adjusters and employers.
  • Coordinates appointments i.e. diagnostics, PT, providers and DME.
  • Monitors compliance in appointment attendance.
  • Documents appointments scheduled and provider contact for requests of information.
  • Assists Case Managers with return to work activities, i.e. secure job descriptions, RTW confirmation, etc.
  • Communicate with adjusters via telephone and e-mail on a daily basis.
  • Print and review diary in AM and PM.
  • Obtain high priority medical treatment documentation for lost time and complicated medical only files, i.e. quick note, office note, letters, etc.
  • Contact attorneys regarding appointment coordination.
  • Coordinate high priority appointments such as one time evaluations, second opinions and need for treat evaluations.

KNOWLEDGE:


  • Managed care related to Workers’ Compensation injuries.
  • Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
  • Knowledge of the information and techniques needed to diagnose and treat human injuries, diseases, and deformities. This includes symptoms, treatment alternatives, drug properties and interactions, and preventive health-care measures.
  • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
  • Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems such as word processing, managing files and records, transcription, designing forms, and other office procedures and terminology.

SKILLS:


  • Must be able to operate computer, telephone, calculator, fax, scanner and printer.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, communication and presentation skills.
  • Must be detailed oriented.
  • Understanding written sentences and paragraphs in work related documents.
  • Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
  • Consider the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate one.

ABILITIES:


  • The ability to perform simple analytical reasoning.
  • The ability to properly interpret policies. 
  • The ability to listen to, read and understand information and ideas presented in writing.
  • The ability to apply general rules to specific problems to produce answers that are appropriate.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, communication and presentation skills.
  • The ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences.

CERTIFICATION:


  • Active New Jersey Medical Assistant Certification required
  • National Certification preferred.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, and TRAINING:


  • High School Diploma required.
  • College Diploma preferred.
  • Medical background required.
  • Worker's Compensation experience preferred.
  • Two plus years of Medical / Health-Related Experience required.
  • Excellent communication skills, Computer Skills required.
