At PPT, our System Safety SME must be highly motivated with a desire for learning new technologies and processes; have the ability to collaborate across multiple disciplines to gain a full understanding of systems architecture, operation, usage, and design; be able to support multiple projects; have experience applying system safety principles to a variety of systems and equipment; accomplishing safety processes that include MIL-STD-882, ARP 4761/4754, or combination thereof; perform various safety analysis techniques; serve as a technical evaluator for safety assessment; capability to develop and manage safety requirements within the systems engineering environments including MBSE; and capable of serving as Technical Lead in coordinating system safety group’s activities, supporting proposals and cost estimates, interacting with Customers and potential new Customers on PPT’s system safety and software safety capabilities, developing task descriptions, and mentoring junior engineers.
Responsibilities and Duties for the System Safety Engineer Subject Matter Expert:Primary responsibilities will include providing system safety support to Army aviation in the application of SAE ARP4754A and ARP4761 safety assessment processes to existing and modified rotorcraft as well as development of new equipment and systems to be used in multiple platforms. Support includes identifying system safety process requirements, review and evaluation of architecture and design concepts, review and evaluation of safety and design documentation, and active participation in IPTs, working groups, review panels, requirement, and design reviews.
Applicant must be able to apply system safety methodologies such as FHAs, PSSAs, SSAs, FTAs, Zonal Safety Analysis, and Common Mode Analysis to mechanical, electrical, and avionics/software-based systems and equipment; define design and operational approaches for the solution of non-compliances or unacceptable risk; and coordinate issue resolution with program management, design organizations, and airworthiness organizations.Desired Qualifications for the System Safety Engineer Subject Matter Expert:
- Must have at least a BS in Engineering or Computer Science
- Must have at least 10 years relevant experience
- Current or past FAA DER/ODA Member with system safety approval authority
- Application of DO-297
- Understanding of DO-178C software development processes including use cases, requirements, and objective artifacts.
- RTOS, multi-core processor, aircraft networking/databus experience
- Knowledge of SAE ARP4754A and ARP4761
- Knowledge and adaptability to MIL-STD-882E analyses and processes
- Good communication skills in preparing technical reports
- Ability to use safety analyses to establish safety requirements
- Ability to tailor safety process to projects
- Extensive experience in accomplishing a variety of safety analysis techniques and accomplishing technical evaluation of safety analyses and assessments performed by others
- Experience as a participant in working groups, review panels or boards, or program and design reviews
- Good communication skills in preparing technical reports
- Experience as a participant in working groups, review panels or boards, or program and design reviews
- Must be able to travel (5-10%)
- Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a security clearance eligibility at the required level
