Operations Supervisor — M-1 Rail/QLINE Detroit

Are you an experienced leader with a passion for transportation and public service? Our client, M1 Rail, the operator of QLine Detroit, is looking for a dedicated Operations Supervisor to join their dynamic team and oversee the daily streetcar operations. If you are a motivated individual with strong supervisory skills, we want to hear from you!

Key Responsibilities:


  • Leadership & Supervision: Interview, hire, coach, and guide the performance of Operators and Utility Operators. Provide constructive feedback and collaborate with management to ensure continuous improvement.
  • Operations Management: Plan, schedule, and direct daily streetcar operations. Coordinate with internal departments and external entities to manage incidents, accidents, emergencies, road conditions, adverse weather, detours, and schedule changes.
  • Safety & Compliance: Ensure adherence to federal, state, and M-1 safety regulations. Identify workplace hazards and enforce safety precautions. Participate in accident investigations and initiate required reporting.
  • Streetcar Operation: Operate the streetcar in both revenue and non-revenue service as required—guide and train employees on proper procedures and protocols.
  • Administrative Duties: Accurately record events and activities in appropriate systems. Notify management of operational problems and coordinate solutions. Complete all other job-related duties as assigned.

Required Skills & Experience:


  • Supervisory Experience: Minimum of three years in a supervisory role preferred.
  • Motivational Leadership: Ability to inspire and supervise team members.
  • Technical Proficiency: Skilled in Microsoft Office and quick to learn new software.
  • Safety Knowledge: Thorough understanding of occupational hazards and safety precautions.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent report writing and clear, effective communication using tact and diplomacy.
  • Team-Oriented: Demonstrated leadership in a team-focused environment

Education, Licensing, and Certifications:


  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum age of twenty-one (21) years
  • Valid Michigan driver’s license and Michigan Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), Class B with P endorsement
  • Successful completion of the Streetcar Operator Training Program
  • Periodic re-certification on Standard Operating Procedures, rules, and hands-on proficiency
  • Current Department of Transportation (DOT) medical certification
