Summary:
The Assistant Vice President, Tax will be responsible for oversight and management of the income tax returns and provisioning for Group 1001 and its subsidiaries, including the federal consolidated return and related state consolidated or combined returns as well as other offshore insurer returns. This role is also responsible for premium and sales and use taxes, along with policyholder related tax requirements and reporting of withholdings. This position will also be responsible for contributing to the development of the overall tax strategy, as well as developing and implementing tax planning strategies.
Main Accountabilities:
Responsible for timely and accurate review and analysis of all monthly, quarterly and annual income tax provisions and income tax returns and payments in accordance with regulations for all Group 1001 associated companies. Tax provisioning is required on an NAIC and US GAAP basis.
Responsible for the review and analysis of monthly, quarterly and annual premium tax provisions, sales and use taxes and guarantee fund assessment provisions and tax returns and payments in accordance with regulations for all Group 1001 associated companies.
Provide guidance to third-party administrators regarding company policy for treatment of policyholder tax withholding and compliance issues.
Provide oversight of third party administrator compliance with policyholder withholding, remittances and tax reporting and ensure appropriate withholding, remittances and tax reporting is performed for employee payroll and any policyholder taxes not completed by third party administrators.
Collaborate with insurance product development as necessary to provide expertise with regard to policyholder taxation and with investment management regarding tax-advantaged investments
Develops, directs, plans and evaluates the organization tax policy, conducts research to ascertain optimal tax minimization
Uses strategic planning to assess new requirements, analyze critical issues, assess tax impacts for proposed transactions and provide options to implement strategic and process initiatives that maximize US GAAP net income and NAIC surplus
Maintains current understanding of tax requirements of the various authorities as well as any software and vendor option
Maintain current knowledge of prospective changes in tax regulations
Participate in industry groups as appropriate
Has strong leadership skills to ensure appropriate staffing and organizational structures are in place for their area and ensures bench strength and succession planning.
Manage and develop staff by providing challenging assignments while ensuring compliance requirements are met at all times
Expert tax professional with mastery of complex tax issues
Maintains a balanced between day-to-day high level operational execution and the development of the strategic direction for the area and enterprise
Experience & Skills
Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting/Finance; advanced degree preferred
7-10 years of progressive tax experience; insurance experience preferred
