About this role:
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Sr. Accountant to join our finance team. The position will oversee the full revenue cycle of the business (contract review/setup, billing/collections, and revenue recognition) as well as, perform general accounting functions such as journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations. The role is a critical role within the business and will require collaboration with sales, customer success, and executives to achieve business objectives.
Your contributions and responsibilities:
- Contracts and Billing:
- Manage the full revenue cycle, from contract review/setup, billing, collections, and revenue recognition.
- Perform contract setup and invoicing within established SLAs for the business.
- Provide direction to two employees who assist part-time in the finance department on billing and collections.
- Review all contracts and amendments to ensure accurate pricing and alert the appropriate stakeholders on unfavorable or high-risk financial terms.
- Work closely with the sales and customer success teams with quotes, contract amendment terms/calculations, and contract language as it relates to financial terms.
- Set up invoicing schedules per contract terms and submit invoices.
- Communicate with customers regarding billing-related questions.
- Collections:
- Identity and follow up on past due accounts through email and phone outreach.
- Devise and execute strategies to enhance successful collection outcomes for outstanding customer balances.
- Collaborate with the customer success team on collection strategies and provide feedback related to the customer’s churn risk for forecasting purposes.
- Provide feedback and guidance to executive stakeholders regarding the escalation of outstanding accounts.
- Maintain collection reports and dashboards for team visibility.
- Prepare contract amendments for payment term revisions and/or separation agreements.
- Post cash receipts.
- Revenue and Reporting:
- Review and recognize revenue monthly in accordance with ASC606 revenue recognition policies.
- Provide daily, weekly, and monthly reporting of ARR (Annual Recuring Revenue) to the executive team.
- Reconcile revenue from contracts to the general ledger and maintain revenue reports used during the annual audit.
- General Accounting:
- Management of the fixed asset schedule. Perform gain/loss calculations on the sale or disposal of assets.
- Support the month-end close process by posting journal entries and performing balance sheet reconciliations and reviews as assigned by the Controller.
- Review, investigate, and provide feedback on period-end fluctuations in GL balances compared to forecast.
- Calculate bad debt expense and forecast bad debt for future periods using methods established by leadership.
- Support the annual financial audit by gathering documentation as requested by the auditors.
Your ideal qualifications:
- Bachelor’s in accounting or related field
- 5+ years’ experience in accounting
- Experience with contract billing and B2B collections
- Familiar with ASC606 Revenue Recognition standards
- Experience in the SaaS industry a plus.
- Detail-oriented with strong attention to detail
- Advanced Microsoft Excel Skills and familiarity with Google Sheets
- Excellent communication skills; written and verbal
- Experience with Netsuite and Maxio, or other similar programs
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and customer service skills
