Title: Part-Time Legal Counsel
Location: Chicago, IL (Remote)DescriptionWe are looking for a skilled and experienced Part-Time Legal Counsel to provide strategic legal advice and support to our rapidly growing startup. As our Legal Counsel, you will be responsible for ensuring that our operations comply with all relevant laws and regulations while protecting the company's interests. You will work closely with our leadership team to mitigate legal risks, draft contracts, and provide legal guidance to help us achieve our business objectives.Responsibilities
- Contract Drafting and Review: Draft, review, and negotiate various contracts, including transportation agreements, vendor contracts, and other legal documents to protect the company's interests.
- Regulatory Compliance: Stay up-to-date with transportation industry regulations and ensure our operations comply with federal, state, and local laws.
- Risk Assessment: Identify legal risks associated with our business operations and develop strategies to mitigate these risks.
- Dispute Resolution: Handle legal disputes and litigation matters, working with external counsel when necessary, to protect the company's interests and resolve issues efficiently.
- Corporate Governance: Provide legal guidance on corporate governance matters, including advising on board meetings, shareholder agreements, and corporate policies.
- Intellectual Property: Assist in protecting the company's intellectual property rights, including trademarks, copyrights, and patents.
- Compliance Training: Develop and conduct training programs for employees to ensure awareness and compliance with relevant legal requirements.
- General Legal Support: Provide legal advice and support on a wide range of legal issues as they arise in the course of business operations.
What You’ll Need:
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
- Active membership in the state bar association.
- Minimum of 7 years of experience practicing law, preferably with a focus on transportation or logistics.
- Strong understanding of transportation industry regulations.
- Excellent contract drafting and negotiation skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
