Engine Development Testing Manager
Job Description and Responsibilities
The Engine Development Testing Manager plays a pivotal role in overseeing all aspects of engine testing, including the development of dynamometer equipment and facilities, software management, coordination with suppliers, and strategic planning to ensure a state of readiness for the creation of high-performance racing engines.

Essential Duties:
Engine Development Testing Oversight:
- Define and manage engine-specific testing requirements, encompassing performance, reliability/durability, fuel economy, and drivability.
- Act as the primary liaison between the organization and key suppliers such as AVL, Kistler, Automation Direct, and various component vendors.
Team Management:
- Supervise a team of development cell operators, fabrication specialists, and a test systems supervisor.
- Provide guidance and tools for weekly testing tasks, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
- Deliver training on HMS-specific tools and processes.
- Develop and maintain standard testing procedures and tasks.
- Offer backup testing support as needed.
Collaboration and Process Improvement:
- Collaborate with the engine development and engineering teams to improve test processes and systems.
- Anticipate testing needs within the development group, staying informed about the latest test technologies.
- Enhance testing accuracy and efficiency through continuous improvement initiatives.
Software Design and Development:
- Design, create, and maintain software tools for dyno data analysis, engine mapping/calibration, communication protocols, Concerto template development, PUMA script development, CAN interface development, and dyno problem resolution.
Hardware Design and Development:
- Collaborate with the HMS engineering team to design and procure hardware systems, including engine mounting systems, dyno driveshaft systems, custom instrumentation booms, connector panels, and fluid conditioning systems.
Supplier Coordination:
- Participate in meetings with preferred test system component suppliers.
- Interface with suppliers to review system and component functional requirements and ensure alignment with HMS-specific requirements.
R&D Project Support:
- Provide support for HMS R&D projects involving special test requirements and instrumentation.
Facility Coordination:
- Coordinate with the HMS Facilities Group regarding building-specific requirements related to testing, including facility upgrades, maintenance, calibration, and safety.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's or advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
- Proven experience in engine development testing, including software and hardware design.
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Familiarity with the latest advancements in engine testing technologies.
