Job Description
The Certified Weld Inspector (CWI) drives weld quality deliverables and performance, including weld process development, testing and implementation. CWI will:
Own weld processes and operator qualifications, per quality plan requirements.
Own weld quality results, driving improvements through effective coaching.
Manage/Maintain our weld qualification database and records, driving action as necessary.
Roles and Responsibilities
The CWI is responsible for having an acute attention to detail, inspecting welded components for overall weld quality and ensuring that correct process is followed during the welding of production components. Overseeing correct process/procedure includes: ensuring correct machine settings, part position, welding progression, filler material, base metals, and employee qualification.
Creates/maintains documented information that influences the welding process such as: Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), Procedure Qualification Reports (PQR), and Welder Qualification Test Reports (WQTR).
Oversees the development, testing and qualification of various welding procedures, ensuring the production of weldments/products that are considered sound in accordance with written code, standards or other documents.
Provides critical information and scientific evidence pertaining to welding, weld processes, base materials, and filler materials to ensure that best practice is followed during production welding. These inputs help to prevent the critical failure of welded components and to uphold the integrity of the manufacturing process.
May participate in performance testing of interview candidates
Facilitates the onboarding performance qualifications for new hires to meet needs prior to introducing them to production processes.
Performs structural/non-structural welding inspection in accordance with AWS, or customer-prescribed, standards.
Performs non-destructive visual inspection of welds performed by others in accordance with defined process specifications.
Identifies opportunities to coach fabricators up on weld quality and appearance per Hendrick Motorsports expectations of quality.
Reviews the performance of inspections completed by subcontractors, or other, if/as needed.
Performs other in-process or finished goods inspections, as called upon, to meet production needs
Manages compliance with our internal process and operator qualifications program via Sharepoint records
Jobs at this level function with some autonomy but are subject to functional practices and precedents or are covered by well-defined policies or review of end results. The job allows modification of procedures and practices covering work as long as the end results meet standards of acceptability (quality, volume, timeliness etc.).

Required Qualifications
Minimum 5 years experience in manufacturing with a direct relationship to welded assemblies fabricated to national or international standards.
Demonstrated experience performing visual inspection and destructive/non-destructive testing of welds; AWS D1.1, D1.3 or D1.5 experience preferred.
Ability to review and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
Proficient in the use of weld inspection tools including; weld gauges, NDT equipment, and micrometers.
