This position is hybrid and remote eligible for up to 40% of the time. The office location for this position is at ESL Corporate Headquarters in Rochester, NY. Hours are Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Must remain flexible to meet current and future business needs. 

Pay: 


Starting Salary: $122,849    Pay Range: $108,684 - $137,014

Purpose of Position:


The Systems Engineer position is responsible for the architecture, planning, implementation, administration, maintenance and support of ESL’s server, storage, desktop and systems infrastructure for our mission critical systems. The Systems Engineer will work with the Network Engineer, Telecommunications Manager, Information Security and others in Information Technology to ensure that the performance, availability and security of the overall network and systems infrastructure is maintained to the highest standard with maximum levels of uptime, efficiency and security.  The Systems Engineer will evaluate hardware and software vendor products and recommend purchases consistent with ESL’s architectural standards and objectives.  The System Engineer will provide tier three technical support as needed by Network Services staff, other IT departments and the ESL user community.

Accountabilities:


Lead the overall effort in managing ESL’s physical and virtual server, storage, desktop and system infrastructure across all primary, secondary, branch, kiosk and other remote locations•Architect infrastructure in a manner that provides stable solutions that are cost efficient, scalable, secure and adhere to ESL’s architecture and infrastructure standards.•Plan and execute upgrades and routine maintenance to ensure that high availability and performance standards are met.•Lead the selection, implementation and support of hardware and software.•Ensure that hardware and software systems are properly maintained and achieve agreed upon uptimes.•Serve as a change agent leader by participating in and educating others regarding systems changes and ESL’s Change Management System and methodologies.•Continually monitor ESL’s systems, respond to alerts requiring corrective action, and communicate issues/resolutions to the appropriate stakeholders.•Lead monitoring and capacity planning efforts to ensure short-term and long-term system viability.•Provide 24x7x365 support which requires carrying a cell phone to ensure accessibility during and after business hours.•Provide comprehensive support to the Telecommunication staff for all telecom related systems.•Work with the Supervisor, Network Support in supporting the end-user desktop experience as it relates to the systems infrastructure.•Work with and assist the Manager, Network Services to plan and manage yearly capital and expense budget for Network Services and other business units as needed.•Provide technical consultation to business units on departmental and corporate projects, and participate in those projects as needed.•Installation, configuration and support of new infrastructure application releases and updates.

•Perform and support environment refreshes and development efforts.  •Establish and maintain disaster recovery environment including comprehensive documentation.•Ensure all mission critical systems employ proper data replication and/or backup processes and that tested recovery procedures are in place.•Participate in and support all business continuance and disaster recovery testing initiatives. •Perform other miscellaneous duties related to helping ESL achieve its mission and vision.Assume an active, supporting role in the planning, implementation and support of system related activities. •Assist the Network Engineer and Telecom Manager and serve as a backup in implementing, managing and supporting ESL’s infrastructure.•Assist the Network Engineer and Telecom Manager in the coordination of vendor activities required for supporting ESL’s network infrastructure.Ensure that strong client relationships exist with all internal clients and business stakeholders.•Approach each client interaction with the intent of providing exceptional service.•Provide a high-level of professionalism and technical expertise when consulting on any projects, issues and/or related customer and stakeholder interactions.•Ensure third-party vendors adhere to contractual or stated service level agreements and seek remediation where appropriate.•Coordinate the work of and manage relationships with third-party vendors engaged in servicing or supporting ESL’s systems infrastructure.

Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's degree in Information Systems/Computer Science or other related discipline or 4 additional years of relevant experience
  • Minimum 5 years’ IT experience architecting, engineering, and supporting a large virtual server infrastructure
  • Strong Windows systems knowledge and experience
  • Strong knowledge and experience in virtual server technologies
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Must be flexible with working hours as work schedules occasionally change on short notice to cover unexpected business needs
  • Knowledgeable on multiple hardware/software platforms
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills, and the ability to stay focused on completing tasks and meeting goals within a busy workspace
  • Strong planning, organizing, and coordination skills
  • Excellent analytical and interpersonal skills required
  • Able to work independently without supervision and relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals
  • Experience with hyper converged technologies
  • Hybrid Cloud Experience
  • Experience with VMWare Virtualization technologies
  • Experience with Container Technologies

Additional Preferred Qualifications:


  • Experience with Microsoft Server infrastructure, F5 load balancers
  • Experience with Citrix Netscaler and virtual desktop infrastructure
  • Experience with Microsoft Azure
