Automotive Radar Field Applications Engineer

Job Summary:


As an NXP Field Application Engineer, you’ll be a key part of a worldwide technical community providing premium pre-and post-sales technical support to major OEM and Tier 1 automotive companies in the Americas. You will help drive demand creation and design-in activity at their sites in close cooperation with the NXP business lines supplying microcontrollers, microprocessors, and radar transceivers into the automotive market. You will provide technical skills and support to NXP’s sales staff and will liaise with the NXP technical community about technical issues and future roadmaps of your customer(s) for ADAS radar solutions.

We rely on you to deliver the NXP value message in a persuasive and accurate manner, to increase our market share. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Assist in the integration and debugging of NXP 77GHz radar transceivers and radar processors in customer designs.
  • Utilize evaluation boards, software, tools, and documentation to demonstrate that NXP solutions can meet customer application requirements.
  • Provide strong technical expertise supporting design-in activities (up to 50% On-Site presence).
  • Assist customers in evaluation of silicon and software
  • Support customer software reviews
  • Support customer hardware reviews
  • Assist customer product engineering and NXP quality and application teams in product debug and failure analysis
  • Understand and contribute information about the competitive landscape,
  • Assess the NXP product offerings and plans to assist in generation of collateral to identify device/system-level differentiation from competition.
  • Cooperate closely with Sales and Marketing on project identification and customer proposals.
  • Gather intelligence about the customers’ product plans and relevant silicon requirements and then communicate to the appropriate NXP product groups and technical community.
  • Assist in the development of technical collateral for internal or customer use (Application Notes, Engineering Bulletin, Demos, etc.). Support trade shows and technical society meetings.

Key Attributes


  • MS or BS Degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in automotive 77GHz radar applications.
  • Experience in software development, systems engineering and/or field application engineering.
  • Experience with general embedded programming in C.
  • Experience with MATLAB desirable
  • Strong analytical, problem solving and follow-up skills.
  • Capable of establishing open and trusting relationships with customers.
  • High degree of self-motivation, flexibility, business and organizing skills.
  • Good written and verbal communication and presentation skills in English
  • Excellent recognition and collaboration skills to leverage extended team expertise when appropriate.
  • Willingness and ability to travel.
