A Day in the Life of an HR Generalist
at Discovery Life Sciences:
- Performs routine tasks required to administer and execute human resource activities including but not limited to compensation, benefits, and leave; performance and talent management; productivity, recognition, and morale; occupational health and safety; and training and development.
- Administers employee changes in HRIS (UKG)
- Reviews, adjusts and approves time tracking requests in local ZEUS system.
Position Qualifications (Education, Skills, Experience):
- Formal human resources experience required, at least 1 year preferred
- Experience in preparing monthly payroll and working in DATEV
- Problem-solving skills; Ability to identify issues, know when to ask for help, and resolve problems quickly.
- Demonstrated Critical thinking skills and sound judgment required.
- Ability to prioritize, manage and follow-up on multiple concurrent tasks and requests on tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience in dealing with Works Councils, preparing hearings and helping to negotiate agreements.
- Proficiency with or the ability to quickly learn the DLS’s HRIS “UKG”
- Strong computer skills to include Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Google Docs.
- Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and handling confident matters.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships across the organization
- Very good Ability to speak and write in German and at least intermediate English skills (both in writing and speaking)
Key Responsibilities:
- Responsible for the day-to-day Germany HR operations partnering with the HR Business Partner, TA team and VP of HR on all HR related issues in the employee cycle and experience.
- Provide superior customer service in interacting with employees and leaders in facilitation of HR tasks.
- Develops and reviews HR relevant SOPs/FORMs/templates/policies etc. in reliance to German legislation and business needs.
- Prepares and checks payroll and salary transfer in cooperation with Finance.
- Engages in works-council related discussions and drafts works-council agreements.
- Local office point of contact for all employee enquiries, maintaining legally required paper files, filing mail for HR department etc.
- Administers employee recognition and benefit programs
- Implements and handles new hire onboarding and orientation programs.
- Handles employment-related inquiries from applicants, employees, and supervisors, referring complex and/or sensitive matters to the appropriate staff.
- Attends and participates in employee disciplinary meetings, terminations, and investigations
- Partners with corporate shared services functions, like Finance and IT, on HR matters
- Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; reviews policies and practices to maintain compliance.
- Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law
- Supports the hiring of qualified job applicants for open positions (in cooperation with talent acquisition) if needed.
- Supports all above-mentioned tasks for other European countries if needed.
- Consistent and predictable attendance in the Kassel office is required.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor. These may, on occasion, be unrelated to the position described here
