Preferred Qualifications:
- Degree from an ABET-accredited educational program
- Experience with FAA Telecommunications Infrastructure (FTI) ordering, provisioning, and technical capabilities.
- Familiarity with wide-area networking (WAN), software-defined networking (SDN) and Multi-Protocol Label Switching (MPLS).
- Familiarity with USAF MAJCOM-base organizational structures to include communications squadrons as relates to provision, operation and maintenance of on-base WAN/LAN capabilities including copper and fiber infrastructure.
- Familiarity with USAF MAJCOM-base organizational structures to include Operational Support Squadrons as relates to operation and maintenance of ATC systems.
- Familiarity with DoD and FAA air traffic control (ATC) system interfaces and data protocols is a plus.
Responsibilities:
In this position you will provide systems engineering support to Air Force Life Cycle Management Center/Global Air Traffic Management (AFLCMC/HBAG) Branch to manage deployment/fielding and installation for transition of USAF air traffic control (ATC) related telecommunications circuits from time-division multiplexing (TDM) technology to internet protocol (IP) based networking technology.
- Review current TDM telecom connections to USAF ATC systems at approximately 100 air traffic control towers (ATCTs) and radar approach control (RAPCON) facilities and identify appropriate replacement IP services
- Coordinate activities with the Air Force Base (AFB) and Major Command (MAJCOM). Based on a national deployment schedule that is coordinated with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the contractor will coordinate and track MAJCOM and AFB orders for appropriate IP replacement services
- Brief MAJCOM and AFB personnel on the IP ordering process through the Defense Information Services Agency (DISA) Storefront
- Communicate government site preparation requirements to MAJCOMs and bases and, where needed, travel to bases to conduct site surveys
- Depending on availability of funding, the contractor will ensure availability of funded Program Designator Codes (PDCs) within the DISA Storefront to fund new service orders and, as appropriate, fund site preparation or special construction to support new IP on-premises equipment installation. To support the above activities, the candidate will maintain a detailed schedule of activities for each USAF ATCT and RAPCON to include ordering, site preparation, initial IP equipment installation, IP cutover, and TDM equipment removal and circuit decommissioning
- As requested, the incumbent will report to the USAF Program Office and Air Force User on progress for transition to IP services and identify and characterize potential risks to continuity and availability of air traffic services during transition
- Will perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Citizenship: Must be a US citizen
- Clearance: Must have an Active Secret Clearance
- Bachelor's Degree in a professional engineering discipline, with 12 years of directly related experience; 5 of which in a DoD setting, OR 15 years of directly related experience with 8 years of experience in a DoD setting
- Experience with creating and tracking Telecommunication Service Request/Orders (TSRs/TSOs) within Defense Information Security Agency (DISA) StoreFront
