SUMMARY
We are seeking a talented and motivated Data Engineer to join our dynamic team. As a key member of the data analytics team, you will play a crucial role in designing, developing, and maintaining data pipelines, analytics systems, and reports. This person will drive our data modernization initiative to support decision-making across the enterprise. This role has great exposure within the finance organization (including the CFO) and across other departments. Data Stack: Fivetran, Airbyte, dbt, BigQuery, Cube, PowerBI, ThoughtSpot
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand data requirements and objectives.
- Identify key moments in the customer journey to mitigate churn and drive retention.
- Design and implement robust data pipelines for efficient data extraction, loading, and transformation (ELT) processes, utilizing modern data pipeline tools (including Airbyte, CData, and others).
- Develop and maintain cloud data warehouse data models for analytics purposes, incorporating semantic layers for enhanced data accessibility and controls.
- Perform data analysis to identify trends, patterns, and insights relevant to business goals.
- Ensure data accuracy, integrity, and security through regular monitoring and maintenance.
- Create and optimize SQL queries for data extraction and analysis, leveraging tools like dbt to build and document data transformations.
- Collaborate with data scientists and analysts to implement machine learning models and algorithms.
- Stay informed about industry best practices and emerging technologies in data analytics, with a focus on modern data stack advancements.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree or Master's degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Engineering, Mathematics, Economics or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience working in the analytics stack as a Data Engineer or similar role.
- Strong proficiency in SQL and 3+ years of production experience with dbt, macros and Jinja.
- Hands-on experience with data warehousing solutions (e.g., BigQuery, Snowflake, Data Bricks).
- Experience with ETL tools and processes, including Airbyte and FiveTran.
- Solid understanding of data modeling and database design principles.
- Experience with orchestration tools such as Apache Airflow.
- Intellectual curiosity and analytical follow-through (you always ask “why?” and think about how you could answer that question).
- Superior analytical, problem-structuring, and visualization skills - you can get to the heart of a problem, identify what you need to answer the question, and present it in a manner that will inform decision-making.
- Proficiency in programming / scripting languages such as Python.
- Competence with preparing documentation, using automated documentation and data cataloguing tools like dbtCloud and Dataplex.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of projects.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
- Familiarity with CI/CD methodologies applied to data (including test-driven development, environment staging, data contracting).
- Knowledge of financial and/or operational data analysis and reporting.
- Bonus points for experience working with (build, maintain, integrate, etc.) enterprise accounting systems and SalesForce.
