Support the forest planning, inventory and environmental programs and provide decision support. The individual will have a lead role in key company initiatives including harvest scheduling, growth and yield modelling, silviculture, inventory cruising, development of integrated geo-spatial and forest data tools, year-end inventory, carbon and GHG calculations and reporting.


The salary range for this position is $54,439.05-$90,731.75.


The position is bonus eligible, with a target value of 10% of salary.


Forest Management Planning Support:


  • Data management and testing.
  • Provide project-level data analyses, and decision support.
  • Work with IT in developing integrated data and spatial management tools derived from remote sensing.
  • Lead the development and implementation of geospatial tools to improve efficiency of forest management.
  • Provide assistance in applied statistics/data analysis to foresters, biologists, and other natural resources professionals.
  • Provide group and/or individual training as needed.

Data Quality Assurance/Control:


  • Develop and document procedures to ensure the validity and credibility of all resource data, analyses and reports.
  • Ensure procedures for routine inventory updates are understandable and followed during inventory acquisition.
  • Ensure that sample designs and intensities are consistent, reproducible, and appropriate to the resource and management objectives.
  • Support Timberlands Carbon, and GHG accounting and reporting.

Year-end Inventory Update:


  • Support annual year-end forest inventory tabular data update that produces revised forest inventory estimates by region and product.
  • Lead the effort to ensure high quality data through ongoing QA/QC procedures and tracking and categorizing changes to the inventory throughout the year.
  • Provide preliminary system test procedures (dry run) to scope out issues prior to final year-end updating.

Requirements:


  • Master’s degree in forestry, biometrics, statistics, natural sciences, resource management or related field
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office Excel, Access, and Word
  • General understanding of business organization, management planning processes and investment strategies
  • Ability to plan, organize, coordinate, and implement using a team approach to problem solving
  • Effectively interact and communicate with unit managers, district foresters, senior resource foresters and resource foresters in each region and the members of the Forest Planning and Inventory work
  • Demonstrated proficiency in statistics and ability to apply it to a wide range of data analysis, forest inventory applications, and growth and yield modelling
  • Proficiency or familiarity with R/RStudio, SAS/JMP, Python, SQL and/or spatial planning software (Remsoft preferred)
  • Familiarity with growth modelling systems such as Forest Projection System (FPS), Forest Vegetation Simulator (FVS) and Southern States growth model (SiMS) (preferred)
  • Proficiency with natural resource modelling, ArcGIS, and GPS
  • Primarily in an office setting
  • Some time may be spent outdoors and subject to adverse weather and terrain conditions
  • Travel may be required
