Full-timeDescriptionAt Southwest Center, the Security Guard is responsible for keeping the building safe and secure while providing a welcoming presence. In this role, you will monitor and authorize entrance and departure of employees, visitors, and other persons to guard against theft and maintain security of premises. You will also patrol the premises to prevent and detect signs of intrusion and ensure security of doors, windows, and gates.The Security Guard supports the Southwest Center mission of providing affirming and inclusive services to promote well-being and advance health equity for diverse communities and all those seeking compassionate care - especially people of color, LGBTQIA2S+ and Queer individuals, and those affected by HIV.The schedule for this position is the afternoon/evening shift.

What your day will look like at Southwest Center:


  • You will monitor and authorize entrance and departure of employees, visitors, and other persons to guard against theft and maintain security of premises.
  • You will monitor surveillance systems, to include cameras and alarms.
  • You will answer alarms and investigate disturbances.
  • You will provide a welcoming, customer-service oriented presence at the front door security desk.
  • You will patrol the premises to prevent and detect signs of intrusion and ensure security of doors, windows, and gates.
  • You will also write reports of daily activities and irregularities, such as equipment or property damage, theft, presence of unauthorized persons, or unusual occurrences.
  • You may call police or fire departments in cases of emergency, such as fire or presence of unauthorized persons.
  • You will circulate among visitors, patrons, and employees to preserve order and protect property.
  • You will warn persons of rule infractions or violations, and apprehend or evict violators from premises, using force when necessary.
  • You will assist with meeting and event setup and break down.
  • You will report any issues that require maintenance, especially security related issues.
  • You will ensure the property’s exterior and interior are clear of debris or trash while patrolling the premises.
  • You will enforce parking in proper areas for patients, staff, and deliveries.
  • You will report improper operation of lighting, doors, and building equipment.
  • You will enforce the facility’s policies and procedures, including policies regarding tobacco restrictions, loitering and disruptive behavior.

Requirements

Who we're looking for:


  • You've graduated High school and earned your diploma or completed your GED.
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English-- quarterly bilingual pay incentive in addition to hourly rate!
  • You have basic computer skills, including MS Outlook and Word.
  • You possess an Unarmed Security Guard card; or have ability to successfully complete Unarmed Security Guard Training within one week of employment.
  • You've demonstrated cultural competency to professionally and respectfully serve the LGBTQIAS+ communities required.

Environmental Factors, Physical Requirements, and Compliance


  • This is an hourly, full-time position that includes direct client, vendor and employee contact. This position requires a flexible work schedule, including normal business, evening and occasional weekend hours.
  • Work will occur both in a climate-controlled environment with minimal safety/health hazard potential and occasional outdoor work in all types of weather.
  • This position will require moving and/or lifting items up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to stand for an extended period of time.
  • Ability to walk for extended periods of time.
  • Currently have, or be able to obtain within 90 days of employment, a valid Fingerprint Clearance Card
  • Currently have, or are able to obtain within 7 days of employment, a clear TB test
  • Currently have, or are able to obtain within 7 days of employment, a current flu vaccination
  • Currently have, or are able to initiate within 7 days of employment, a Hepatitis-B primary vaccination series
  • Currently have, or are able to obtain within 14 days of employment, a CPR certification
