Job Objective:
To provide vital engineering & operational support to Plant Operations, Pipeline Facilities and Commercial teams. Apply deep technical understanding of Refining, Petrochemical and/or Natural Gas Processing unit to existing operational units and/or facilities. Applies technical skills to optimize plant operations, drive process reliability and resolve plant/facility issues while maintaining a safe and efficient operation. Provides engineering analysis of operational problems and then identifies resolution or value-enhancing projects.

Requires broad working knowledge, experience to perform a range of work assignments including support of integrity inspections, assessments, and risk mitigation projects/programs. Provides full range of engineering support for concept development and opportunity proposals to the Commercial team for new projects and acquisitions.

Essential Job Responsibilities:


  • Regularly interacts with control room, field operations leadership and field personnel to analyze operational problems, develop alternatives and recommend optimal solutions.
  • Seeks and identifies opportunities to optimize systems and improve efficiency resulting in improved operating performance & reduced operating costs.
  • Maintains and reviews Key Process Indicators (KPI) and process trends to ensure optimum performance daily
  • Responds with urgency to plant upsets and operational problems
  • Provides initial design engineering, scope development, schedule and cost estimates for maintenance expense and/or capital jobs as well as growth capital projects.
  • Coordinates and manages third party engineering designs for projects.
  • Coordinates with project engineers and/or construction crews to ensure execution on desired scope of work.
  • Works closely with the project manager or assumes the role of Project Manager for individual projects or programs as needed.
  • Participates or leads PHAs for processing facilities and is responsible for resolving or identifying projects to address identified issues.
  • Performs hydraulic simulations of pressures and flow rates through pipelines transporting oil, NGLs or natural gas
  • Works in coordination with the commercial team in new growth project development, providing iterations and various options for initial feasibility designs & cost estimates
  • Performs due diligence evaluations on proposed asset acquisitions including reviews of asset data and on-site evaluation of facility assets
  • Meet with various local, state and federal agencies regarding assigned projects as needed
  • Presents operational KPI information during field monthly update meetings
  • Assist in incident response efforts if required

Qualifications:


  • Five (5) years minimum experience in refining or petrochemical industry serving as a Production Engineer.
  • Experience with Distillation, Reforming, and/or Natural Gas Processing is a plus
  • Broad based engineering and operational knowledge with the ability to understand, lead efforts in or provide internal support for civil, electrical, mechanical and process control issues or designs.
  • Familiar with PSM and process hazard analysis process and able to perform PHA’s for process facilities.
  • Familiar with process simulation (Promax or equivalent) and hydraulic modeling software.
  • Ability to generate heat & material balances for both existing and new process designs
  • Ability to troubleshoot & resolve process operational issues
  • Ability to perform detailed hydraulic modeling for both gas and liquids without use of canned computer software programs.
  • Ability to support operations team to maximize value generated from each asset.
  • Ability to size relief valves and control valves for both gas and liquids
  • Ability to generate conceptual and detailed cost estimates for projects up to $10 MM.
  • Ability to maintain a positive, professional and solutions-oriented approach with employees, supervisors, other departments, officials, and the public.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and share ideas
  • Ability to complete multiple, diverse tasks of differing priorities.
  • Willing to travel 25% of the time

Education Requirements:


  • Required: Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering, Petroleum Engineering or Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university

Certifications, Licenses, Registrations:


  • Professional Engineers license preferred, but not required
