Everything we do originates from our focuson user experience and outcomes.The RoleUnder general supervision, the Government Affairs Specialist initiates, prepares, interprets, reviews, and monitors legislation and administrative regulations affecting Versaterm in coordination with Versaterm's government affairs team, senior management, legislative lobbyists, legislators, legislative staff, and other governmental staff at the local, regional, state, and federal levels. The incumbent will significantly participate in initiatives related to Versaterm and its products and performs related duties as required.
This journey-level position reports to the VP of Governmental Affairs and interacts with legislators and other public agencies while monitoring legislation and administrative regulations affecting Versaterm.Job Responsibilities:
- Develops and maintains ongoing effective contact with elected officials and their staff.
- Reviews and analyzes legislation and regulatory actions that may affect Versaterm and transmits information to Versaterm staff, lobbyists, local, state, and federal legislators, and legislative staff as appropriate.
- Research and identify funding and reimbursement sources.
- Monitor grant funding and government bid procurement sites.
- Represent Versaterm's position on legislation, as appropriate, to special interest groups, local, state, and federal agencies and legislative representatives.
- Drafts correspondence and other Versaterm-related documents for outside distribution.
- Works with Government Affairs staff on strategizing, designing, and implementing advocacy efforts in support of key Versaterm projects and initiatives.
- Attend legislative/regulatory hearings and meetings as well as meetings with key stakeholder groups.
- Writes and disseminates information to Versaterm Governmental Affairs Department’s external and internal clients.
- Assists in the review of environmental documents and strategizes for successful project outcomes.
- Supports state and federal legislative programs.
- Establishes and maintains regular contact with special interest groups related to Versaterm operational and business needs, including police agencies, fire departments, school districts, corporate executives, and industry representatives in support of the legislative program.
- Develops and manages the process for providing legislative information to appropriate Versaterm department managers and division directors.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Manager.
Education
- A bachelor’s degree in government, political science, communications, or a related field.
Experience
- At least five years of increasingly responsible professional experience in governmental relations.
Skills
- Knowledge of legislative processes at the local, state, and federal levels.
- Understanding of legislation formats and language.
- Proficiency in English grammar and principles of developing legislative language.
- Familiarity with the environmental impact review process.
- Ability to analyze, interpret, and write legislative language.
- Work effectively with numerous rules, regulations, and protocols.
- Collect, integrate, and synthesize information to choose appropriate options.
- Negotiate and persuade to reach compromises or gain support.
- Research and identify funding and reimbursement sources.
- Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Develop funding proposals.
- Deal effectively with diverse audiences, including community groups, environmental groups, school districts, corporate executives, and industry representatives.
