Job title: Facilities Specialist
We are seeking a Facilities Specialist to join The Southwest Human Development team. This role works under regular direction performing diverse maintenance services in the Early Head Start & Head Start department and their locations. Duties include preventative maintenance checks to ensure proper operations throughout the sites including playground checks, fire checks, and all classroom materials. Ensure all plumbing, electrical, and HVAC systems are operating properly. Will be responsible for the cleaning of carpets, windows, floor drains, walls, and ceiling tiles.
In this role you will:
- Perform general labor work as assigned including loading, unloading, and stocking classroom supplies.
- Maintain lighting systems throughout the facility, cleaning fixtures and replacing lamps.
- Maintain grounds of facility, performing tasks of pressure washing, sweeping or leaf blowing.
- Maintain classrooms and common areas, cleaning windows, floors, rugs, tables, and chairs.
- Monitor entire facility for safety hazards or property condition concerns and report them to their supervisor.
- Perform housekeeping functions to maintain the professional appearance of the property, equipment, classrooms, and common areas.
- Use independent judgment and discretion in setting daily priorities to complete tasks.
- Demonstrate sensitivity to linguistic, cultural, social, economic, individual and role differences among persons and families served.
- Provide services that are family-centered and relationship-based.
- Adhere to the SWHD Core Values and the Codes of Ethics of NASW and NAEYC.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
What it takes:
- High School diploma or GED
- One (1) year experience in facilities, maintenance, and janitorial.
- Highly organized and a demonstrated ability to work independently.
- Possess an insured & reliable vehicle and a valid AZ driver’s license.
- Valid Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card – OR - must qualify for a valid Arizona Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card.
- Preferred three (3) years’ experience in the area(s) of facilities / maintenance / janitorial.
- Fluent in Spanish and English is preferred.
- Experience using Microsoft Word is preferred.
Position’s Physical Demand:
- Ability to lift 35 - 50 pounds.
- Ability to reach/work in ceilings without assistance.
- Ability to stoop, bend and squat for appropriate amounts of time.
- Ability to sit or kneel for periods of time on the floor.
- Ability to get up and down from floor without assistance.
- Ability to run after a child if necessary.
- Ability to climb flights of stairs.
