Job Description:
We currently have available a full time position for a Structural Designer, EIT with 1-5 years of experience. Salary is commensurate with experience and based on the qualifications described below. This candidate will working project in both our technology and commercial engineering sectors, while managing and/or designing the applicable projects. Candidates will be evaluated based upon their design experiences and effective communication skills, both verbal and written. Additional evaluation metrics will consist of design experience with timber, concrete, masonry, and steel.
Good interpersonal skills are also required as employee management and frequent client interaction will be part of the candidates' responsibilities. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work in a relaxed and vibrant office environment while helping guide the company into the future. Our industrial division works is involved with some of the largest technology innovators and projects on the planet, while our commercial building division is involved daily in a wide variety of building projects ranging from retail to multi-story commercial structures, high end residential, mid level multi-family housing, K-12 schools, medical, retail, industrial, and seismic retrofit projects. Our office is located in downtown Portland to accommodate our growth and offer the best office environment possible for our valuable staff.
Summary of Position Responsibilities:
KAEKO is seeking a Structural Designer, EIT. The Structural Designer, EIT is responsible for designing drawings, specifications, and computer models of structures for building contractors. They help design hospitals, office blocks, houses, bridges, and other structures. These responsibilities include, but not limited to:
- Responsible for technical guidance and quality oversight, including code review, on all project work involving structural engineering.
- Technical training and development of staff.
- Establishing and improving standards, practices, guidelines, and specification for discipline area.
- Provide real time advice and decisions, technical in nature and cost estimates as needed.
- Review and direct revisions to design packages as required.
- Review as-builds, submittals, and redlines.
- Coordinate with all disciplines involved (Architectural, Mechanical, Electrical, Structural, etc.), including outside consultants and contractors.
- Technical interface with code officials and contractors.
- Participate in meetings with Customers and Owners to review the scope of work, discuss ways to reduce costs, and provide value engineering ideas.
- Coordinate changes and gather information from various resources to enable correct information flow.
- Review and interpret engineering specifications.
Minimum Requirements:
- 1-5 years’ experience of structural design in the consulting engineering industry or a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering with a structural focus
- EIT certification.
- Proficient with Autodesk AutoCAD, Outlook, Word, Excel and Bluebeam.
- Good understanding of the construction process.
- Familiar with NDS, AISC, ASCE 7, ACI and International Building Codes
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
- Familiar with construction documents.
- High attention to detail.
