JOB SUMMARY:
The Microsoft SQL Server DBA will be responsible for the configuration, implementation, and maintenance of database technologies managed by the Gateways & Database Operations department. This role will focus on the administration of on-premises and cloud infrastructure to include servers (virtual and physical), database instances, and database objects, such as stored procedures, functions, view, etc. The Microsoft SQL Server DBA will assess and identify appropriate solutions to be integrated into the Apriva systems and make recommendations for implementation.This role works under the direction of the Manager of Gateway & Database Operations.
The position requires excellent customer service and organizational skills to support developers, system engineers, department supervisors, staff, and Apriva customers. Promoting a positive environment by maintaining respectful interactions with all team members is an essential element of success for this role. This position requires the ability to function successfully in both team and independent work environments.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- SQL DBA tasks supporting 24x7 production and Dev/QA environments.
- Monitoring and testing of system and database backups.
- Assists in the planning, design, documentation, and implementation of various systems, including servers, databases, and applications.
- Develops, maintains, and monitors systems for optimal performance and uptime.
- Ensures systems adhere to compliance standards for PCI-DSS, SOC, etc.
- Review and maintain software patches and service packs related to performance and security.
- Perform on-site and remote technical support.
- Works with Operations, Development, and Engineering teams to enhance and manage changes that move through SDLC lifecycle.
- Participation in Agile SCRUM.
- Maintains excellent communication with the Manager of Gateway & Database Operations on all tasks and projects.
- Creates and maintains accurate and complete technical documentation.
- Provides emergency on-call support with the ability to work a flexible shift.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Ability to adapt to ever-changing technical knowledge in data engineering landscape.

EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
- Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent experience, required.
- 5+ years experience setting up and managing enterprise Microsoft SQL Server database environments.
- 5+ years experience with Windows Server 2016+ platforms.
- Proficiency with T-SQL.
- Active Directory, including Group Policy.
- Basic PowerShell skills.
- Strong database query performance tuning and optimization skills.
- Ability to review code releases, suggest performance enhancements, and work closely with the developers.
- “Nice to haves”:
- HA/DR technologies, e.g., AlwaysOn Availability Groups.
- PCI-DSS experience.
- Azure, including Azure SQL Database, Managed Instance
- Other RDBMS experience, e.g. PostgreSQL, MySQL
- SSIS, SSRS, SSAS
- Comfortable with various Linux distributions
- C# / .NET
- Azure/MSSQL Certifications
