Job Summary
The Shipping and Receiving Supervisor must be highly organized to oversee our company's shipping and receiving department. This position will be processing shipment orders, monitoring the packaging and labeling of completed orders, inspecting orders for quality issues and evaluating the performance of carriers and shipment department employees. Additionally, the Supervisor will oversee all company receiving with compliance to the purchase order and subsequent proper storage of product in the factory.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Responsible for training employees on forklift driving, company procedures, and all shipping functions.
- Lead department to ensure process is run effectively and efficiently.
- Maintain a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner so that you are professional with customers, partners, co-workers and management.
- Hiring, training, and supervising shipping and receiving employees.
- Evaluating carrier performance and resolving issues with orders and logistics.
- Act as a liaison between management, carriers, and shipping customers.
- Lead, plan, organize and control the operation of the shift.
- Prepare products and other items for customer shipment or Installation team following established procedures for packaging, crating, boxing, bundling, wrapping, strapping, and labeling.
- Inspect orders for quality issues to ensure completed product matches customer specifications.
- Accurate and complete processing of all paperwork for inbound and outgoing trucks.
- Request freight quotes as necessary from established freight vendors.
- Involved heavily in all aspects of receiving, comparing packing lists to company purchase orders and ensuring that the products in each delivery match the packing list. Communicate delivery issues/discrepancies with Purchasing.
- Working with inventory management software to ensure all data is recorded accurately for shipping and receiving functions.
- Responsible for training employees on forklift driving, company procedures, and all shipping functions.
- Operate forklift, pallet jacks, and other equipment to move parts to proper locations and load and unload freight trucks as necessary.
- Effectively communicate with carriers, customer, operations, and management
- Work in a fast-paced environment.
- Performs other shipping and receiving duties as assigned.
Required Skills / Abilities
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related programs.
- Solid knowledge and experience working this the materials modules of a world class ERP system.
- Demonstrated superior attention to detail for all aspects of materials management.
- Must be able to follow given processes and work in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent organizational skills and strong attention to detail.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Self-motivated with a high level of initiative.
- Work independently, under minimal supervision.
- Ability to work well with a team environment.
- Flexible schedule required.
- Must be flexible and willing to work the demands of the department which may be subject to evenings, weekends and holidays.
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Associates degree in related field preferred.
- 3 – 5 years of hands-on shipping and receiving experience required.
- 3 – 5 years of management experience required.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift up to 70lbs regularly in a fast-paced environment.
- Required to stand, knee and/or bend for long periods of time.
- Require local travel.
