We are a team of doctors, scientists, startup veterans, and White House advisors, backed by leading technology and healthcare investors working to re-imagine and re-build OUD treatment in America.About the RoleAs Senior Director of Engineering, you will drive Ophelia's engineering vision to create innovative, industry-leading, and compliant solutions that support our mission to treat opioid use disorder through telehealth.
You will be responsible for developing and executing our engineering strategy, ensuring the highest quality standards across all projects, and fostering a culture of creativity, collaboration, and continuous improvement within the engineering team.In this role, you will mentor and develop the engineering team, recruiting and retaining top talent while promoting a culture of innovation and excellence. You will collaborate with various departments to identify and prioritize impactful technology projects, ensuring their timely and reliable delivery. Additionally, you will share valuable data insights related to system performance and scalability during our growth, empowering informed decision-making across the organization.Your role will also involve advocating for engineering-led initiatives, and ensuring their integration into the product roadmap. You will teach engineering best practices, utilize components and architecture effectively, and trust others to execute these principles across the organization.
Staying current with industry trends, emerging technologies (read: AI), and sharing knowledge will be crucial to driving innovation and maintaining excellence in our engineering processes.As a member of the Tech Leadership team, you will participate in strategic planning and other activities, working closely with the leadership of all teams to push forward Ophelia's engineering thinking. This fully remote role reports to the Chief Technology Officer and requires collaboration with peers, including the Directors of Product Management, Product Design, and Data.Together, we will help hard-to-reach individuals treat their opioid dependence. While direct experience in this treatment area is not mandatory, knowledge of the healthcare space, including understanding health outcomes, benchmarks, systems, and regulatory compliance (HIPAA), is highly beneficial.
Responsibilities
- Develop and execute an engineering strategy that is industry-leading, compliant, and achieves Ophelia’s goals. Drive innovation and unlock the magic of tech! Set and achieve ambitious, end-to-end engineering quality. Work across the business to share the vision.
- Mentor and develop the engineering team, fostering a culture of creativity, collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement. Recruit, support, mentor, and retain top engineers. Make work fun!
- Work across the business to align on engineering initiatives, educate on technical metrics and concepts, and be an ambassador for technical excellence. Ensure timely and reliable delivery of projects. Broadly share insights related to the engineering team. Demonstrate stellar communications and relationship building.
- Empower engineering decision-making by teaching impact-oriented engineering, sponsoring engineers as stakeholders, holding engineers accountable, and, trusting your team to execute.
- Own system performance through tracked and shared metrics, understand scaling, align with compliance and security, and enhance your team through great PDLC.
- Participate in Tech Leadership planning and other activities.
- Stay current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices to drive innovation and excellence in product design.
Skills and Competencies
- 12+ years experience in engineering; ideally with a portion in a scaling organization with bespoke systems
- 5+ years experience managing ideally both individual engineers and engineering managers with delivery accountability
- Experience in true agile practice including highly collaborative development, value-driven with hypotheses and experiment design, and an overall iterative development mindset
- Stellar communications with a passion for aligning your team and able to create strong points of view to help our strategy, backed with data; excellent cross-functional and external networking habits
- Background in a regulated industry, ideally healthcare; and telehealth is a big plus! Bring a thoughtful approach to compliant, private, secure software that remains nimble and modern
- Habits of a technician including constant improvement, learning, measurement, and objective, reasoned thinking
