Role Overview


Boom Supersonic is seeking an Electro-Mechanical Engineer to join the Overture Supersonic Airliner development team. You’ill be responsible for supporting the design of the Electro-Mechanical Systems on the Overture supersonic airliner, working with the Overture Design group to assist in electro-mechanical system design and support of other multi-disciplinary development activities of the Overture aircraft.

Responsibilities


  • Working with the Overture design group (especially Electro-Mechanical & Flight Sciences disciplines) to assess the electronic and mechanical functions and characteristics of the various electro-mechanical systems
  • Modeling system layouts, mechanism, and kinematics in Catia/3DX
  • Developing the architecture of the Electro-Mechanical Systems for Overture
  • Evaluating behavior in the presence of failures and compliance to the safety requirements
  • Capturing, validating and verifying requirements necessary for the development and certification of Overture Electro-Mechanical Systems
  • Soliciting feedback from other design disciplines and interfacing with suppliers

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:


  • Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree in engineering with 10 or more years of experience in aerospace or an equivalent combination of technical education and aerospace experience
  • Experience with developing block diagrams, performing detailed design and participating in the fabrication of mechanical system
  • Working knowledge of the process by which requirements are captured and then allocated to  electro-mechanical systems.
  • Fundamental understanding of the operating principles for a wide range of sensors, such as: position sensors, velocity sensors, pressure sensors, force sensors, accelerometers, gyroscopes
  • Fundamental understanding of the design of mechanical, hydraulic and electrical feedback control systems using time domain and frequency domain techniques.
  • Fundamental understanding of how to perform analysis of planar motion of rigid bodies and how to synthesize kinematics of linkages and utilize numerical methods to perform dynamic simulation of mechanisms
  • Effective communication skills

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:


  • Experience communicating complex technical results to a wide audience
  • Experience with C++, MATLAB coding, MATLAB / Simulink, and / or Python is preferred

Compensation


The Base Salary Range for this position is $120,000 - $165,000. Actual salaries will vary based on factors including but not limited to location, experience, and performance. The range listed is just one component of Boom’s total rewards package for employees. Other rewards may include performance bonuses, long term incentives/equity, an open PTO policy, and many other progressive benefits.
