Role Overview
Boom is seeking an Engine Controls Engineer to join our team. You will be working as part of the Symphony Propulsion Team developing the engine controls architecture for the Symphony Integrated Power Plant System (IPPS). Work would be related to the full authority digital engine control (FADEC) system for the Symphony engine
Responsibilities
- Lead the development of the FADEC system hardware and software including definition of controller electronics, sensors, effectors, and engine control law
- Define hardware and software requirements to ensure compliance with FAA Part 25 and 33 regulatory certification requirements
- Author system development, validation and verification plans for development assurance
- Lead design and evaluation of control law for favorable dynamic behavior
- Lead control system testing efforts including desktop simulation, hardware-in-loop (HIL), engine commissioning, and model correlation
- Collaborate with other team members and suppliers throughout the design, integration, and certification activities.
- Collaborate with cross functional team(s) to develop and validate requirements
- Make technical decisions with minimal supervision
Required Education, Skills and Abilities
- Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree in engineering with 10 or more years of experience in aerospace engine controls or an equivalent combination of technical education and aerospace experience
- Expert knowledge of feedback control system hardware and software
- Experience with authoring, validating, and verifying control system technical requirements
- Knowledge of and experience with FAA Part 25 and/or Part 33 regulatory requirements and Advisory Circulars related to engine controls
- Knowledge of and experience with safety assessment process, methods, and analyses (FHA, PASA, SSA) used in safety assessments
- Excellent presentation and communication skills
- The ability to interface and communicate effectively with different groups and levels of leadership internally and externally
Preferred Education, Skills and Abilities
- Expert knowledge in application of SAE ARP4754 and ARP4761
- Experience with environmental qualification per DO-160
- Experience with model-based development per DO-331
- Experience in Software/Hardware Audits (DO-178 and DO-254)
- Coordination with suppliers from development phase to hardware/software qualification and certification
- Experience with development of supersonic aircraft technologies
Compensation
The Base Salary Range for this position is $120,000 - $165,000. Actual salaries will vary based on factors including but not limited to location, experience, and performance. The range listed is just one component of Boom’s total rewards package for employees.
