We believe that Substack should be a safe place for the free exchange of ideas. The T&S Specialist role will enforce Substack’s policies, and resolve critical platform safety issues for Substackers. This is a full time role that requires full weekend moderation and critical response coverage on Saturdays and Sundays (10 am - 6 pm CET). Candidates will be ideally located in the United Kingdom.
As a T&S Specialist, you’ll help Substack consistently enforce its platform level content guidelines and policies. In order to succeed, you’ll need to have deep product knowledge, a knack for making sound judgment calls under pressure, excellent problem solving and communication skills, and experience working on fast-paced and high performing safety teams.Substack’s compensation package includes a market-competitive salary, equity for all full-time roles, and exceptional benefits. Our cash compensation salary range for this role is £60,000 - £68,000.
Multiple factors, including candidate experience and expertise, determine final offer amounts and may vary from the amounts listed above.
Responsibilities
- Provide content moderation and critical response coverage for time-sensitive issues, including spam, copyright infringement, content guideline violations, data subject access requests, appeals, and account recovery.
- Collaborate with engineering to investigate complex, time-sensitive safety issues.
- Offer specialized safety support for top Substackers.
- Work with cross-functional teams, including Product, Engineering, and Partnerships, to develop solutions that enhance platform safety.
About You (Minimum Requirements)
- 2+ years of experience in a fast-paced Trust and Safety or content moderation team, handling a high volume of content.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Comfort in handling highly sensitive, potentially offensive, shocking, or extreme content in alignment with Substack’s approach to content moderation.
- Independent and proactive, with the ability to operate autonomously in a fast-paced environment, make decisive judgment calls under pressure, and tackle ambiguous or complex safety issues with minimal supervision.
- A collaborative spirit, capable of engaging persuasively with a diverse range of stakeholders and advocating effectively for necessary resources to enhance platform safety.
- Believe in Substack’s mission to build a better business model for writing.
