About the role
We know that a strong therapeutic
alliance positions clients for the best clinician outcomes–it allows them to talk freely and openly in a supportive, unbiased, and non-judgmental environment. The Matchmaker team partners with our Data and Clinician teams to maintain and advance the business-critical code that allows us to continue matching clients to the clinicians we know will best serve them. Working alongside a dynamic group of skilled engineers, you will be responsible for understanding and navigating the nuances of our matching system, delivering features for the users that interact with this system, and identifying and driving forward improvement to our system resilience and health.As a Senior Software Engineer at Two Chairs, you will engage in cross-functional work with key stakeholders, implement solutions, and work with your teammates to help our organization and team level up.

Core Areas of Responsibility
Delivering high-impact feature work - 40%
- Design and implement technical strategies that deliver on OKR-related goals: work closely with product partners to ideate, understand problem space and goals, and propose technical paths forward that meet user needs and business goals
- Balance individual contribution and mentoring/coaching to help the team deliver high-impact features built in a way that supports system resilience and are well-tested
- Make recommendations about strategies for elevating high-value inputs, streamlining workflows, and creating a smooth experience from intake to entry to care
- Implementation Planning - 40%
- Weigh risks and benefits of various approaches and bring along technical peers and nontechnical cross-functional partners
- Work with the Product Manager to assess the costs of various approaches and determine a path forward that is the best use of resources
- Given a list of requirements, develop strategies for implementation
- Define tickets with clear acceptance criteria and expectations for teammates to complete
Ecosystem ownership - 20%
- Understanding the inputs and outputs of matching, related workflows, and the variables that affect matching outcomes and communicate this understanding succinctly to partners
- Respond to inquiries from cross-functional partners about nuances of our system and be a partner in developing viable technical solutions to issues
Impact and Success Indicators
Where you’ll make an impact in the first 90 days:
- Gain an understanding of the code base and the inner workings of our application.
- Bring fresh ideas and suggestions for improvements.
- Participate in sprint planning, stand-ups, and retrospective meetings. Helping spec out scope and technical details.
- Tackle tickets that contribute to a better application.
Where you’ll make an impact in the first year:
- Own and deliver several large cross-functional projects.
- Take on a technical leadership role, mentoring junior developers, and driving architecture and technical planning decisions.
- Become a go-to teammate for questions on architecture, design, code reviews, and testing.
- Translate product ideas and specifications into actionable work and scope.
You’ll be successful if you have:
- Experience working in a startup environment (think ownership, agility and innovation).
- Self-motivation and a self-starting attitude with an enthusiasm to mentor more junior engineers.
- Experience working with our stack (Next.js, Python/Django) or similar
- Experience with containerization (Docker or otherwise), Kubernetes or similar is a plus.
- Experience building performant scalable software.
- Low ego and strong orientation to cross-functional work and stakeholder collaboration.
- 6+ years of engineering experience.
