In-Office Schedule: 2 days/week Hybrid 


As a Lead DevOps Engineer at MediaAlpha, you will be a key member of the engineering leadership.  You will be accountable and responsible for multiple key infrastructure systems, owning the strategy, architecture, design and implementation.  You will collaborate with peer leads, work alongside our business partners and lead engineers to define roadmaps and deliver on our strategic vision.  You will work with peers and leadership to define and drive best practices, refine our SDLC, improve our ecosystem (infrastructure, toolsets, processes, etc) and uplift our engineering organization.  The ideal candidate is someone who is a masterful engineer who has hands-on experience building an AWS environment for use by a development team, works well across organizational boundaries, is a mentor and leader to other engineers and improves the conditions of any area they are in.  We are an intentionally small organization, designed for agility, speed and workability and ‘Lead Software Engineers’ are at the heart of our organization.

Responsibilities


  • Maintain the cloud environment.
  • Own Cloud operations including management of day-to-day administration, planning, remediation issues, and timely resolution of issues for the cloud`d environment.
  • Ensure proper automation and deployment of infrastructure necessary to deliver MediaAlpha services.
  • Responsible for the overall function and performance of the AWS environment.
  • Monitors and improves the cloud health, automation, and expense processes.
  • Overseeing routine maintenance procedures and diagnostic tests.
  • Respond to ticket requests and escalated incidents as required.
  • Document processes and maintain performance metrics.

  • Guide overall operations.
  • Architect cloud environments within the Amazon platform including database and system design.
  • Mentor others on DevOps process and methodology.
  • Conforming to best practices in cloud administration and cybersecurity.
  • Contributing expertise on information system options, risk, and operational impact.
  • Be part of the on 24/7 call rotation for operational and security events.

  • Collaborate with development.
  • Update existing code and scripts (Perl, Python, etc.), as well as resolving script errors in the development environment.
  • Managing installation and configuration of solutions to keep the environment up to date.
  • Support and collaborate closely with counterparts on the Technology, and Security team.
  • Partner to improve application, system, security, and database processes.
  • Identify and automate manual processes as discovered.
  • Create and maintain github automations to improve overall CI|CD processes.
  • Work directly with stakeholders in defining our MediaAlpha Exchange Product and developing and testing new features and integrations

Requirements


  • AWS Certifications a plus
  • At least 7 years of experience working in Amazon Cloud and DevOps environments.
  • At least 5 years of experience in software development.
  • At least 1 year experience with web applications and their backend function(s).
  • At least 2 years experience with Github Automation solutions and CI|CD integrations
  • Experience with database migrations, especially moving to Aurora a plus.
  • Ability to oversee and mentor junior engineers, as well as report to management.
  • Ability to install and configure software, gather test-stage data, and perform debugging.
  • Aid software deployment by writing script updates and running diagnostics.
  • A willingness to be hands on with SQL databases and their function.
  • Proficiency in documenting processes and monitoring performance metrics.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.

Familiarity with:

  • Automation / DevOps - Packer, Terraform, Ansible, Docker, Kubernetes, CloudFormation, CI/CD, GIT, Blue / Green Deployments, Pagerduty, Github
  • SSAE 16 SOC2, PCI, CCPA, OWASP, SSL, TLS, Encryption
  • AWS - EC2, IAM, RDS or Aurora, VPC, Route53, CloudWatch, S3, Billing
  • Bash, Shell, Perl, Python, PHP, Linux (Amazon or CentOS preferred), Apache
