Job Description
Seattle-area aerospace engineering Company is looking to add a full-time Sr. Dimensional Inspector/CMM Operator to its team. This position requires an individual who is experienced working in an aerospace Receiving Inspection environment and can demonstrate cross functional communication skills, working with engineering, sales, and supply chain. You must be able to calibrate, set up and operate a programmable coordinate measuring machine daily and be knowledgeable in the use of PC-DMIS software. You must demonstrate the ability to shift priorities when needed to support company goals and be willing to contribute to finding solutions to problems when needed.
Core Responsibilities
- Must have hands-on dimensional inspection experience for receiving inspection of precision aircraft parts. Candidates will be required to demonstrate these inspection skills during in-person interview (see Experience and Skills).
- Perform FAI, In-process, and Receiving inspections of precision manufactured parts, including verification of all required documentation and dimensional inspection of finished parts.
- Program and operate Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) to provide complete dimensional analysis in support of design engineering of new products.
- Interpret 3D models, drawing requirements and technical specifications
- Perform competent use of computer skills to record inspection data, complete reports, and research specifications.
- Record, analyze and communicate measurement data.
- Interface with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) System to perform job functions.
- Perform detailed evaluation of supplier certifications relating to all drawing notes
- Responsible for internal/external tool calibration and managing Tool Calibration System.
- Evaluates and coordinates customer issues with Engineering and Sales.
- Cooperates with other top management personnel in formulating and establishing company policies, operating procedures, and goals.
- Reviews technical problems and procedures of departments and recommends solutions to problems or changes in procedures.
- Works with Procurement to ensure material and component suppliers meet JPE’s requirements related to supplier quality.
- Ensures that communications with Engineering is sufficient to rectify any issues as required.
- Creates and implements inspection criteria and procedures.
- Applies total quality management tools and approaches to analytical and reporting processes within each department.
- Responsible for internal and supplier corrective action processes.
- Responsible for ensuring staff are properly trained and certified to meet quality requirements.
- Experience working with FAA and issuing 8130-3 Airworthiness tags is a huge plus.
- Interface with Enterprise Resource Planning System (Quantum) to perform job functions.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, and Word).
- Perform complete part dimensional analysis supporting design engineering of new products.
- Integrate honesty and accountability into all job responsibilities.
- Any other duties as assigned.
Experience and Skills
- Minimum 5 years of experience performing mechanical inspections in an aerospace environment with the ability to inspect complex machined parts using surface plates, sine bars, angle plates and other layup tools and measuring equipment to verify dimensions to the design drawing.
- Extensive experience operating a CMM in an aerospace environment with the ability to perform some programming.
- CAD/CAM and/or PC-DMIS experience and Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) proficient.
- Strong geometric dimensioning and tolerance skills (GD&T).
- Accurately interprets and applies drawing requirements.
- Accurately interprets and understands supplier documentation including material, process, and inspection certifications.
- Confidently uses tools/gaging to measure parts to four decimal places of accuracy.
- Demonstrates experience in basic surface plate set-up and inspection.
- Demonstrates experience in the use and care of inspection equipment; micrometers, bore gages, thread gages, gage blocks, etc.
- Additional skills in operation of an automated coordinate measurement machine, optical vision system, optical comparator, Keyence VL Laser Scanner, or ZYGO machine are a plus.
- Demonstrates strong technical verbal and written communication skills.
- Capability to thrive in a dynamic position which demands consistent accuracy and attention to detail.

Education
- Minimum - high school graduate or equivalent, higher education a plus
Physical Demands and Working conditions

- Must have good manual hand and finger dexterity.
- Must have good vision for prolonged inspection and periods of concentration.
