Role: Patient Account Representative


Location: Thibodaux Regional Pain Clinic (Thibodaux, LA)


Team: Tech-Enabled Managed Services (TEMS)


The Patient Account Representative will be responsible for the credentialing process for the employed providers as well as coordinating deposits, refunds, scanning necessary information to the outsourcing company.  This position will also be responsible to assist in the completion of the enrollment documents for payers.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Prepares credentialing documentation for specific payer groups.
  • Assist with the completion of managed care and other payer enrollment forms.
  • Ability to answer questions from patients, staff from physician offices, managed care companies, payers concerning payments/charges, etc.
  • Maintain credential files for employed physicians and allied health staff.
  • Prepares deposits for clinic practices received by mail.
  • Processes credit card payments and refund for clinic practices.
  • Assist with necessary billing documents required from the outsourcing company.
  • Clerical liaison for the clinics and the outsourcing billing company.
  • Collects, sorts and delivers mail.
  • Compiles financial hardship reports and prepares professional write-offs for employed physician practices for the billing company.
  • Provides supportive services to Medical Staff leaders in fulfilling the responsibilities of their offices.
  • Occasionally backs up front desk at physician offices.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Provides prompt, courteous service to all internal and external customers.  Prioritizes and addresses customer needs and demands in a professional manner, providing follow-up and developing cooperative relationships.
  • Identifies opportunities and recommends methods to improve customer service, work processes and financial performance.  Assists in design and implementation of quality improvement initiatives on departmental and organizational levels.
  • Assists team members in completion of tasks and assignments to ensure continuity of service.  Orient new co-workers and actively support team development.

AGE SPECIFIC CONSIDERATIONS:


May provide patient care for people of the following age group:

  • Neonates (Birth – 28 days)
  • Pediatrics (29 days – 14 years)
  • Young Adult (15 years – 24 years)
  • Adults (25 years – 64 years)
  • Geriatrics (65 years and older)

QUALIFICATIONS:


Educational and/or Professional Qualifications:


1.  High school diploma or GED preferred.

Previous Experience


A minimum of one year experience working in a medical business office, clinic, or hospital setting required. Insurance and collection experience is preferred.

Other Special Training/Skills:


Has a pleasant voice and good language skills. Able to operate a computer. Possess basic mathematical skills.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:


No direct line of supervision.

SCHEDULE:


Typical work hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

HAZARDS:


  • Job duties will include tasks which have the potential for daily exposure to patient blood/body fluids.

PHYSICAL EFFORT:


[Note: In terms of an 8 hour day (shift length), “Occasionally” equals 1-33%, “Frequently” equals 34-66%, and “Continuously” equals 67-100% of the time].

  • Constant sitting.
  • Intermittent standing and walking.
  • Occasional lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling up to 15 pounds.
  • Occasional bending, squatting, twisting, and stair climbing.
  • Frequent reaching.
  • Must be able to see (near, far, and have depth perception), hear, talk, have use of right and left hands, have dexterity in fingers.

Information Security and Compliance Responsibilities:


  • Maintain compliance with training directives required by the organization pertaining to Information Security, Acceptable Use Policy and HIPAA Privacy and Security.
  • Adhere to and comply with the organizations Acceptable Use Policy.
  • Safeguard information system assets by identifying and reporting potential and actual security events to the organizations Security and Compliance Officers.
