The Opportunity
CoinDesk is searching for an ambitious, motivated and well-sourced reporter in Asia who can deliver best-in-class coverage and attention-getting scoops on one of the most exciting beats in the world: cryptocurrencies. We won major accolades for our coverage of Sam Bankman-Fried, and we want someone who will publish our next big story. The ideal candidate will be an expert on at least one of three crypto beats:
Regulation – Do you have sources among the decision-makers who will decide how crypto fits within traditional financial regulatory regimes?Protocols, DeFi and on-chain data – Are you deft at getting inside information that's market-moving about blockchains/protocols/DeFi projects or through analyzing on-chain data?Exchanges, TradFi and other crypto corporations – Are you well-sourced at the centralized crypto firms (exchanges, custodians, etc.) or traditional finance companies (traders/investors, brokers, banks, etc.) that matter most in crypto? If you’re well-sourced, play well with others and can get scoops in any of those areas – particularly stories that move markets – we want to hear from you. Beyond that, your mission will be to solidify CoinDesk's place as the most-trusted and reliable source for crypto news in Asia.
What You'll Do:
- Cover the heck out of and get scoops and exclusive stories on at least one of the three crypto beats identified above, publishing important information before rival publications.
- Find sources who can provide insights and tips about key news.
- Write concise, sophisticated breaking news pieces with a voice. Your stories should not only explain what happened, but also clearly tell the reader why this latest development matters and how it fits in with the overall picture.
- Identify and write about actionable trends to make our content as valuable to readers as possible. This can include long-form enterprise stories.
- Work closely with teammates to collaborate and share news tips and brainstorm ideas to ensure we produce industry-leading coverage.
What You Have:
- 3+ years’ of crypto reporting experience or you've worked/invested in the crypto industry and can demonstrate writing proficiency.
- Demonstrated ability to get scoops and set the agenda on a relevant beat.
- An insatiable curiosity, a can-do/collaborative attitude, a willingness to hustle to ensure our readers quickly know what they need to know, and the ability to write clear, concise copy on tight deadlines.
- Wire service experience is a plus.
- Fluency in English is required, while fluency in a regional language is highly desired.
