Lead Technician, Instrumentation & Controls

Relativity SpaceCape Canaveral, Florida, United StatesOnsite

Company Overview:

At Relativity Space, we have two audacious goals: to build the next great commercial launch company with Terran R and to become America's leading force in additive manufacturing innovation. Both contribute to our long-term vision of creating humanity’s industrial base on Mars, paving the way for interplanetary life to expand the possibilities of the human experience. This journey begins right here on Earth – where we design, build, and fly rockets to deliver customer payloads to orbit. Terran R, our medium-to-heavy lift reusable rocket, fulfills the growing demand for launch capacity thanks to our iterative approach that accelerates design, testing, and development while minimizing costs.

While our groundbreaking research and development in 3D printing pushes the boundaries of large-scale additive manufacturing.Your journey with us is more than just a job – it’s an opportunity to shape the future of aerospace technology, additive manufacturing, and the human experience alongside a community of passionate, creative individuals. Join us on this extraordinary journey, as we work together to transform our vision into reality.

About the Team:

Relativity’s Launch Infrastructure team oversees launch site design & build, ensures launch operation capabilities, and provides supporting new infrastructure projects, including recovery and refurbishment sites. This includes everything from gathering project requirements and conceptual designs to project execution and activating systems required for Terran R Launch. The Launch Infrastructure team works in close coordination with Launch Operations to ensure that all operational requirements are met and ready for flight.

The team is actively working on designing and build Relativity’s next-generation launch site for Terran R

About the Role:

As a Launch Instrumentation and Controls, Technician Lead, you will be at the forefront of creating a world-class orbital launch site. To be successful in this role, you should be able to lead projects to completion, ideally coming from a fast-paced aerospace environment where you have completed challenging projects while collaborating effectively across various groups. The ability to perform high-quality work with minimal direction across all major technical disciplines is crucial. You should have extensive experience in installing, verifying, and troubleshooting sensors that measure temperature, pressure, flow, displacement, and vibration.

Additionally, you will be responsible for planning, scheduling, ordering, and driving tasks, as well as delegating work. Providing feedback and maintaining communication with the pad engineering team to prevent issues and enhance the pad build/activation process is also a key part of this role. The position requires the ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs unassisted. Ideally, you possess additional experience in a related technical discipline and familiarity with industry standards and practices.

About You:

  • 7+ years of experience working with instrumentation, data, and control systems.
  • 3+ years of experience managing, hiring, and mentoring teams.
  • Hands on experience working with electronic circuits and sensor types used to measure temperature, pressure, flow, displacement, and vibration.
  • Knowledge and understanding of oscilloscopes, signal generators, and multi-meters.
  • Ability to create, read, and understand blueprints, P&IDs, CAD drawings, and circuit schematics.

Nice to haves, but not required:

  • 10+ years of experience working on aerospace, instrumentation, and/or avionics hardware.
  • Knowledge of Wheatstone bridge theory, ability to apply Ohm’s law, and an understanding of intermediate analog and digital electronics.
  • Experience installing network-based equipment, integrating interfaces such as Ethernet, RS422, RS232, RS485, Modbus, CANbus, etc., and wiring/fiber with communication.
  • Familiarity with harnessing techniques using mil-STD type connectors.
  • Understanding of Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) and IEC 61131.
  • Familiarity with intrinsically safe instrumentation installation in hazardous areas.

Life at Relativity Space

Relativity is creating the first autonomous rocket factory and launch service by 3D printing entire rockets. We are an orbital launch company that will deploy and resupply satellite constellations to connect and improve our planet. Our technology builds toward our long-term goal of 3D printing the first rocket made from Mars.
Thrive Here & What We Value- Totalitarian regime control over citizens' lives (propaganda, surveillance, enforcement)- Propaganda and manipulation through altered historical records- Language and thought control via Newspeak and doublethink- Constant surveillance by telescreens fostering fear and paranoia- Suppression of individualism in favor of collective identity- Psychological manipulation for power retention- Technology's role in enabling Party surveillence (telescreens, microphones)- Resistance through characters like Winston and Julia- Language as a tool for control via Newspeak- Historical amnesia to prevent questioning of reality
