Requirements


Your Impact at CNIB


  • Apply for live animal import and export permits via the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and other equivalent international government agencies for commercial dogs in special training status end use or chilled/frozen genetic material
  • Designs develops and implements reservation and advance arrangement protocols for dogs being imported to or exported from CNIB Guide Dog ensuring compliance of all import/export permit conditions and the Canadian humane transport of animals regulation including space requirements, contingency plans etc.
  • Maintain relationships with Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) and all airline live animal cargo departments
  • Arranges CFIA inspections at first port of entry and health clearance export exams
  • Develop and maintain relationships with International Pet and Animal Transportation Association (IPATA) certified shipping partners and coordinate the safe movement of CNIB Guide Dogs canine stock within Canada and internationally
  • Designs develops and implements reservation and advance arrangement protocols for dogs being transported within Canada or imported/exported from CNIB Guide Dogs
  • Develop implementation plans to maximize the successful and efficient movement of all canines in the CNIB Guide Dogs program including the creation of flight routing reservations and advance arrangements (schedules, routing, interline advance, delivery, accompanying persons
  • Analyzes data sets and decreases supply chain costs and increases program efficiency by working with Vendors for the best possible option for the CNIB Guide Dog program 
  • Maintains and ensures compliance with the International Working Dog Registry (IWDR) requirements for health clearances, pedigrees and other essential data
  • Creating and manages accounts and invoice processing in AP with veterinary and food, transport and inventory item Vendors, managing ordering and billing for the CNIB Guide Dogs program and ensuring the Salesforce vendor database is kept up to date.
  • Research and resolve a variety of routine internal and external inquiries concerning invoice discrepancies, account status, and provide appropriate and timely resolutions.
  • Works collaboratively with Vendors to ensure issues are rectified and requested updates regarding inventory and payments are communicated effectively and efficiently directly to external partners
  • Manage and respond to the guidedogs.billing@cnib.ca and guidedogs.food@cnib.ca email accounts and ensure queries are responded to in a timely and professional manner.
  • Manages relationships with canine food vendors, Handlers and Buddy/Ambassador dog Partners to process food orders and respond to queries on food deliveries/shipping times. Responds in an exceptional manner with the highest level of customer service as the priority. This includes in person contact, telephone, or electronic communications.

Who you are:


Education and Certifications


  • Post-secondary education in accounting, finance, or business administration, and equivalent experience.

Experience and Qualifications


  • Desirable 5 years experience in canine health, nutrition or live animal logistics with operational experience essential.
  • Good working knowledge and experience with MS Office Suite, Salesforce.
  • Experience in NetSuite and Concur is a plus.
  • Experience with Guide or Service Dogs is desirable.
  • Strong leadership qualities, including the character, experience, wisdom, and discernment needed to build trust and influence with direct reports, peers, and organizational leadership.
  • Must demonstrate sound judgment, strong communications and rapport-building skills and the ability to make timely and prudent decisions.
  • Exceptional administrative and organisational skills
  • Professional, compassionate and understanding when working with both people (staff, clients, vendors, volunteers and the general public) and dogs
  • Maintains a positive attitude focused on total company success.
  • Takes initiative to keep ahead of tasks and abreast of various policies and procedures etc. as they relate to the position.
  • Facilitates and enhances team efforts on a professional level and share specialized knowledge, sources, experience, concepts, and skills.
  • Experience with month-end financial reconciliations, analysis, and closing processes are a plus.
  • Must be detail-oriented, well-organized, with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
  • Highly proficient in MS Office, with advanced Excel knowledge (formulas, pivot tables, v-look ups, etc).

  • Personal or professional experience relating to blindness and sight loss is considered an asset.
  • Personal or professional experience working with assistive technology and/or accessible environments is considered an asset.

Work Environment


  • Willing to work flexible hours.
  • Able to work both independently and within a team environment.
  • Home based position with occasional travel to local CNIB office and Canine Campus setting.
  • Employee is exposed to kennel noise, cleaning and antibacterial solutions and animal dander and hair in confined areas such as vans and kennels.
  • Need to be comfortable working around large breed dogs.
